Senate bill No. 13. To provide for au inspection of cattle, being the unfinished business, came up.

Mr. TALIAFERRO of Norfolk city, moved to amend the bill by adding the end of tenth section, "provided that cattle brought from the counties in North Carolina east of the Blue Ridge, to be immediately slaughtered in the markets of Norfolk Portsmouth and Danville, shall not be inspected;" which was agreed to,

Mr. BERNARD moved to strike out in 6th section the words "not in excess of two thousand dollars, and shall pay any such excess into the treasury of the United States;" which was agreed to.

Mr. RAGLAND moved to insert after "state," in 13th line of 1st section, the following: "or to cattle brought from the state of North Carolina to a county adjacent to said state to be used for farm purposes, or to be slaughted in said county "-no quorum voting,

Special order, Senate bill No. 62, to amend and re-enact the 1st, 2d, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 18th and 22d sections of an act entitled an act imposing a tax, and prescribing the mode of collecting the same, on the privilege of selling wines, ardent spirits or malt liquors within the limits of the commonwealth, for the support of the government, and to pay the interest on the public debt, approved March 30th, 1877, as amended by an act approved April 2d, 1877,

A message was received from the Senate by Mr. PHLEGAR, who informed the House that the Senate had passed House bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact an act prescribing the duties, powers, liabilities and compensation of district officers, and to repeal chapter 47, and section 1 of chapter 48, Code of 1873, approved March 26, 1875, No. 17, with amendments, in which they respectfully request the concurrence of of the House.
