No. 73. House bill to incorporate the Fork Ferry company, and to authorize it to establish a ferry across the south branch of the Shenandoah river, in Warren county.

No. 77. House bill to work and keep in repair the public roads in the county of Orange, and authorizing the qualified voters to vote upon its acceptance or rejection.

No. 35. House bill authorizing the trustees of the Augusta Zion Methodist Episcopal church, at Waynesboro', to sell and purchase property and to borrow money, was, on motion of Mr. HANGER, dismissed.

No. 47. House bill to authorize the county of Madison to subscribe to the stock of the Fredericksburg and Piedmont railroad company, on certain conditions, was read a second time.

Mr. MCMULLAN offered a substitute; which was agreed to.

The bill as amended was ordered to be engrossed to be read a third time.

No. 55. House bill to prevent and prohibit hog-pens and the keeping of hogs therein within a half mile of the corporation limits of the city of Alexandria, was read a second time.

Mr. MUSHBACH moved to pass by the bill; which was rejected—yeas 38; nays 40.

No. 63. House bill to authorize the trustees of Disciples church, at Lynchburg, Virginia, to borrow money and give a deed of trust, was read a second time.

Mr. SHELBURNE offered a substitute; which was agreed to.

No. 65. House bill to repeal the act to empower the county court of Essex county and the county court of Richmond county to grant to any person the right to establish a ferry across the Rappahonnock river at Tappahannock, was read a second time.

Mr. WARING moved to dismiss the bill; which motion was rejected.

The bill was ordered to be engrossed to be read a third time. No. 75. House bill to incorporate the Orange mutual fire insurance company, was, on motion of Mr. WALLACE, dismissed.

No. 78. House bill to incorporate the Olympia manufacturing and mining county, in the county of Smyth, was read a second time.

On motions (severally made by Mr. SHANNON), the bill was amended as follows:

Fourth line, 7th section, strike out "manufacturing company" and insert "factory."

Add at end of 7th section the following:

"The company may sell the products of their factory or exchange them for material or supplies in the state."

The bill as amended was ordered to be engrossed to be read a third time.

Mr. SHELBURNE moved to adjourn; which was agreed to-yeas 43; nays 29.

No. 33. Senate bill was read twice and referred to the committee on schools and colleges.

No. 67. Senate bill was read twice and referred to the committee on propositions and grievances.

No. 54. Senate bill was read twice and referred to the committee on finance.

No. 143. House bill to authorize the board of supervisors of Tazewell county to compromise any judgments they may have obtained against any of the late township collectors, reported from the committee on finance, was read a first time.

No. 144. House bill to postpone for eighteen months the repeal of the present fence law in Dinwiddie courthouse, Cherry Hill, Brooklyn, Oak Grove, and Church roads voting districts, reported from the committees on counties, cities and towns, was read a first time.

The following House bills, placed on the calendar under a suspension of the rule, were read a first time.

No. 145. House bill to incorporate the Halifax zinc and lithia springs company (on motion of Mr. EDMUNDS).

No. 146. House bill to incorporate the Old Dominion Tidewater improvement company (on motion of Mr. MEYERS).

The committee on rules reported back the following resolution, which was referred to the committee on yesterday:

Resolved (the Senate concurring), That the general assembly will, on Friday, the 28th March, adjourn sine die.

Mr. JOHNSTON of Giles moved to strike out "Friday, the 28th March," and insert "Wednesday, April 2d, 1879."
