Eight hundred copies of the last annual report of the Asylum for the Deaf, Dumb and Blind;

Three hundred copies of the last annual report of the Central lunatic asylum;

Two hundred copies of the last annual report of the state penitentiary;

Three hundred copies of the last annual report of the Virginia Military Institute;

Eight hundred copies of the last annual report of the Virginia Agricultural an Mechanical College;

Nine hundred copies of the last annual report of the IIampton Normal and Agricultural Institute;

Two hundred copies of the last annual report of the state trea

surer;

One hundred copies of the last annual report of the superintendent of public printing, for the use of such institutions and officers. The House refused to refer the resolution to a committee.

The resolution was agreed to.

Leave of absence was granted Messrs. FICKLIN three days, and HENSON five days.

The following house bills, placed on the calendar under a suspension of the rule, were read a first time:

No. 98. House bill to incorporate the town of Mendota, in the county of Washington (on motion of Mr. FOWLER).

No. 99. House bill to amend and re-enact sections 7 and 8 of chapter 141 of the Code of 1873, in relation to promissory notes (on motion of Mr. COGHILL).

No. 100. House bill to provide for the sale of the new school-house in Jacksonville and for the purchase of the old building (on motion of Mr. DICKERSON of Floy).

No. 101. House bill to amend and re-enact an act approved March 14, 1878, entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 14 of chapter 36 of the Code of 1873, in relation to the taxes collected by the clerks of courts, notaries public, and the secretary of the commonwealth (on motion of Mr. MUSHBACH).

The following were presented and referred under rule 37:

dependent order of Good Templars for the state of Virginia. Referred to the committee on propositions and grievances.

The morning hour having expired, the House proceeded to the business on the calendar.

No. 13. Senate bill entitled an act to provide for an inspection of cattle, was, on motion of Mr. EDMUNDS, passed by and ordered to be printed.

No. 1. Senate bill entitled an act to provide a plan of settlement of the public debt, came up.

On motion of Mr. BARBOUR, the bill was postponed and made a special continuing order for to-morrow at 12 o'clock M.

Ordered, That the bill be printed, and all amendments that may be sent to the clerk's desk on this day be printed.

No. 93. House bill to amend and re-enact the 37th section of an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act for working the roads of Loudoun county, passed 1856, and to repeal certain acts amendatory thereof, approved February 2d, 1875, approved February 1st, 1879, was, on motion of Mr. CARTER of Loudoun, taken up out of its order on the calendar.

The bill was read a second time, and ordered to be engrossed to be read a third time.

The bill being presently engrossed, Mr. CARTER of Loudoun, moved that the bill be read a third time this day; which was agreed to-yeas 98-two-thirds of the members in the House so determining.

Mr. LOVELL moved to reconsider the vote by which the bill was passed: which motion was rejected.

Ordered, That Mr. FAUNTLEROY carry the bill to the Senate and request their concurrence.

No. 17. House engrossed bill to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act prescribing the duties, powers, liabilities and compensation of district officers, and to repeal chapter 47 and section 1 of chapter 48, Code of 1873, approved March 26, 1875, was read a third time and passed.

Mr. WALKER of Northumberland moved to reconsider the vote by which the bill was passed.

No. 8. House engrossed bill to protect regularly-hauled fishing shores in the counties of Accomac and Northampton, came up.

Mr. FINNEY moved to reconsider the vote by which the bill was ordered to be engrossed; which motion was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. FINNEY, the bill was amended by inserting after "counties" in 7th line of 1st section, the words "within a quarter of a mile therefrom"; which was agreed to.

The bill was ordered to be engrossed to be read a third time.

The following House bills were read a second time, and ordered to be engrossed to be read a third time:

No. 22. House bill relating to the custody of infants.

No. 27. House bill to incorporate the Roxboro, Leasburg and Danville turnpike company.

No. 5. House bill for the assessment of taxes on licenses, &c., and imposing taxes thereon for the support of government, the free schools, and to pay the interest on the public debt, was, on motion of Mr. BARBOUR, postponed and made a special and continuing order for Monday next at 11 o'clock A. M.

No. 11. House bill to amend and re-enact sections 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of the Code of 1873, as amended by an act approved March 24, 1874, and section 6 of chapter 49 of the same, as amended by the said act in relation to interest on money, was, on motion of Mr. LACY, laid on the table.

No. 25. House bill requiring the railroad commissioner to cause to be printed and conspicuously posted at railroad depots and stations certain portions of the railroad laws of the commonwealth, with proper explanations thereof, and suggestions thereasto, for the benefit of the public.

Mr. HENRY moved to amend the bill by adding at end of third section the following: "Provided that no greater rate of interest than 6 per cent. per annum shall be stipulated to be paid thereon, nor shall said bonds be disposed of at less than ninety per cent. of their face value."

Mr. HENRY demanded the yeas and nays on his amendment; which was not sustained.

The amendment was rejected.

Mr. HENRY moved to add at end of 4th section the following:

"Provided that all real and personal estate thus acquired and not disposed of within the time herein prescribed shall be forfeited to the state and become a part of the sinking fund."

House bill to authorize the board of supervisors of the respective counties, and common councils of the respective cities, to determine what allowances shall be made to commonwealth's attorneys, clerks and sheriffs of their respective counties and cities, payable out of the county or city treasuries-no quorum voting.

Mr. ASHTON moved to adjourn, which was rejected-a quorum

voting.

Mr. MYERS moved to take up out of its order on the calendar No. 85. House bill authorizing the auditor of public accounts to pay the sum of $40 each to W. II. Kanes, of Bath county, and other onelegged soldiers who lost their limbs during the late war, and were provided by law with artificial limbs which they are unable to use; which was rejected.

Mr. FULKERSON moved to take up out of its order on the calendar No. 95. House bill to relieve Milford B. Spencer of his disabilities under clause 3, section 1, article 1 of the constitution-no quorum voting.
