No. 206. House engrossed bill to authorize the erection of a pier or wharf on Lyon's creek, in the county of Surry, came up.

The bill was read a third time and passed.

Mr. MCCAULL moved to amend the title by striking out "Surry" and inserting "Isle of Wight"; which was agreed to.

Mr. MCCAULL moved to reconsider the vote by which the bill was passed; which motion was rejected.

No. 107. House bill amending the charter of the town of Lovettsville, in Loudoun county, in relation to obtaining licenses to sell liquors, either as a keeper of an ordinary, eating-house, or a merchant, within the corporate limits of said town: and further, of extending the protection of the corporate powers of the town of Lovettsville to all religious denominations worshipping within one mile of said town, came up.

The bill was read a second time.

On motion of Mr. CARTER of Loudoun, the bill was amended.

The bill as amended was ordered to be engrossed, to be read a third time.

No 218. House bill to amend and re-enact sections 7 and 8 of chapter 156 of the Code of 1873, in relation to the business done in the court of appeals at Wytheville and Richmond, came up.

The bill was read a second time.

Mr. Luck moved to amend the bill by striking out in the sixth line of the seventh section, as proposed to be amended, the words, "and Franklin," and inserting "Franklin and Bedford"; which was agreed to.

Mr. Luck moved to further amend the bill by inserting after the word "Franklin," in the fifth line of the eighth section, as proposed to be amended, the word "Bedford"; which was agreed to.

The bill as amended was ordered to be engrossed to be read a third time.

No. 230. House bill to authorize the trustees of Portsmouth Naval Lodge, No. 100, and Mount Horeb Royal Arch Chapter, No. 11, to sell their real estate and subscribe to the Masonic building association of Portsmouth.

No. 231. House bill to incorporate the Masonic building association of Portsmouth.

No. 235. House bill to amend and re-enact the 3d, 4th, 5th and 6th sections of an act to incorporate the town of Falls Church, in the county of Fairfax, approved March 30, 1875.

No. 238. House bill to allow Thomas J. Gillespie, treasurer of Buchanan county, until the first day of May, 1879, to make return of his delinquent and insolvent lists for the year 1877.

A communication from the Senate by their clerk, was read as follows:

The Senate have agreed to amendments proposed by the House of Delegates to Senate bills entitled an act to incorporate and establish the Craig agricultural and mechanical association, No. 128; and an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to regulate the working of the public roads in the counties of Prince William, Montgomery, Chesterfield and Lancaster, No. 146.

And they have passed bills entitled an act to incorporate the West End Beneficial and Social society of the city of Richmond, No. 163; an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act for the protection of game, approved March 29, 1877, No. 205; an act to amend and re-enact section 6 of chapter 100 of the Code of 1873, as amended, in relation to unlawful fishing, No. 94; and an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act prescribing the duties, powers, liabilities and compensation of certain county officers, providing for the collection of taxes, and for the repeal of chapters 37 and 46 of the Code of 1873, approved March 29, 1875, No. 161.

In which bills they respectfully request the concurrence of the House of Delegates.

No. 306. House bill to amend and re-enact section 7 of an act approved March 29, 1877, entitled an act for the protection of game, as amended by an act approved February 22, 1878, reported from the special committee on game, was read a first time.

No. 307. House joint resolution providing for celebrating the one hundredth anniversary of the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown, was reported from the committee on federal relations and resolutions, with the recommendation that it do not pass.

No. 308. House joint resolution authorizing the governor to place at the disposal of the civil authorities of Middlesex and Mathews counties arms and ammunition for the enforcement of laws for protection of oysters, reported from the committee on militia and police, was read a first time.

The report of the committee for courts of justice, on a resolution enquiring as to the liability of the state of Virginia for the West Virginia certificates, came up.
