who is it that can hurt you, if you are zealous of what is good? But if you should suffer any thing for righteousness sake, you are happy. But fear not their terrors, nor be affrighted: but sanctify the Lord Jesus in your hearts.

GRAD. Ps.lxxxv. Look down, O God our protector: look down upon thy servants. V. O Lord God of hosts, hear the prayers of thy servants. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. O Lord, in thy might shall the King rejoice and in thy salvation shall he exult exceedingly. Alleluia.

GOSPEL. Matt. v. 20. 24.

T that tune: Jesus said to his disciples: Except your righteousness exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. You have heard, that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not kill: and, whosoever killeth, shall be liable to be brought to judgment. But I say to you: Whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be liable to be brought to judgment. And whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca; shall be liable to be brought before the council. But whosoever shall say to his brother, thou fool; shall be liable to be cast into hell-fire. If then thou offerest thy gift at the altar, and there callest to mind, that thy brother hath any thing against thee: leave there thy ofering before the altar, and go, first be reconciled to thy brother; and then come, and make thy offering. EPISLE. Rom. vi. 3. 11.

RETHREN: All of us, who have been baptized in Christ Jesus, have been baptized in his death. For we were buried with him through baptism unto death: that as Christ rose from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also may walk in a newness of life. For if we have been planted with him in the likeness of his death, so we shall also be in the likeness of his resurrection. Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed, and that we may no longer be slaves to sin. For he that is dead, is justified from sin. And if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Christ: knowing, that Christ being risen from the dead, dieth no more, death shall no more have power over him. For in as much as he died to sin, he died once: in as much as he liveth, he liveth to God. So do you also reckon, that you are dead indeed to sin, but alive to God, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

GRAD. Ps. lxxxix. Turn to us a little, O Lord: and be appeased with thy servants. V. Lord, thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation, Alleluia, Alleluia. V. In thee, O Lord, have I placed my trust, never let me beput to shame: save me by thy justice, and rescue me : bend thine ear to me, make haste to save me, Alleluia.

Mark viii. 1. 9.

T that time: When there was a great multitude with
Jesus, and they had nothing to eat, calling toge-

ther his disciples, he said to them: I pity the multitude: for behold they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat and if I send them away home fasting, they will faint by the way: for some of them came from afar off. And his disciples answered him: Whence shall any one satisfy them with bread here in the desert? And he asked them: How many loaves have you? They said: Seven. And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And taking the seven loaves, he gave thanks, and broke them, and gave them to his disciples to set before them, and they set them before the multitude. And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed them, and commanded them to be set before the people. And they eat, and were filled. And they took up of the broken remnants seven baskets full. And they, that had eaten, were about four thousand. And he sent them away. CREDO.

OFFERT. Psalm xvi. Make my steps perfect in thy paths, that my feet slip not: bend thine ear, and hear my words: display the wonders of thy mercy, who savest those, who hope in thee, O Lord.

EPISTLE. Rom. vi. 19. 23.

RETHEN: I speak after the manner of man because of the infirmity of your flesh; for as you have employed your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity to iniquity, so now employ your members to serve righteousness to your justification. For when you were slaves to sin, you were free from righteousness. But what fruit had you then of those things, for which you now blush? For the end of them is death. But now being made free from sin, and become the servants of God,
