20 And are built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone.]

21 P In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord.

• And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ,
the Son of the living God. And I say also unto thee, That
thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church;
and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matt. xvi.
16, 18.
For we are labourers together with God: ye are
God's husbandry, [ye are] God's building. According to
the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master-
builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth
thereon. For other foundation can no man lay than that
is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Cor. iii. 9—11. And he

Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone,

Rom. ix. 33. and 1 Peter ii. 6, same words. Jesus saith
unto them, Did ye never read in the Scriptures, The stone
which the builders rejected, the same is become the head
of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous
in our eyes? Matt. xxi. 42, Mark xii. 10, and Luke xx. 17,
same words. This is the stone which was set at nought of
you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none
other name under heaven given among men whereby we
must be saved. Acts iv. 11, 12. To whom coming [as unto]
a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of
God [and] precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up
a spiritual house. 1 Peter ii. 4, 5.

P Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together.
Psalm cxxii. 3. From whom the whole body fitly joined
together, and compacted by that which every joint sup-
plieth, according to the effectual working in the measure
of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edify-
ing of itself in love. Ephes. iv. 16. Till we all come in

CHAP. III.

r For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. But, speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ. If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which [temple] ye are. 1 Cor. iii. 17. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This [is] the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Who [art] thou, O great mountain? before forth the head-stone [thereof with] shoutings, [crying,] Zerubbabel [thou shalt become] a plain: and he shall bring Grace, grace, unto it. Zechariah. iv. 6, 7. Ye are the temple of the living God: as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them;] and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 2 Cor. vi. 16. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1 Cor. iii. 16. What! know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? I Cor. vi. 19. Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 1 John iv. 13.

But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel; For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. Acts ix. 15, 16. And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. such as I am, except these bonds. Acts xxvi. 29. And it came to pass, that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, Men [and] brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see [you,] and to speak with [you:] because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. Acts xxviii. 17, 20. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. right hand of fellowship; that we [should go] unto the
heathen, and they unto the circumcision. Gal. ii. 8, 9.
And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice
speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul,
Saul, why persecutest thou me? [it is] hard for thee to

And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. But rise,
and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee
for this purpose to make thee a minister and a witness both
of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things
in the which I will appear unto thee. Acts xxvi. 14, 15, 16.
But I certify you, brethren, that the Gospel which was
preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it
of man, neither was I taught [it,] but by the revelation of
Jesus Christ. It pleased God, who separated me from my
mother's womb, and called [me] by his grace, To reveal
his Son in me. Galat. i. 11, 12, 15, 16.
