Earth's utmost ends

His power obey:

His glorious sway
The sky transcends.

PSALM CL.

O PRAISE the Lord in that bless'd place,
From whence his goodness largely flows:
Praise him in heav'n, where he his face
Unveil'd, in perfect glory shows.

Praise him for all the mighty acts
Which he in our behalf has done;
His kindness this return exacts,

With which our praise should equal run.

Let all that vital breath enjoy,

The breath he does to them afford,

In just returns of praise employ:

PART II.

COLLECTION

OF

HYMNS.

HYMN I.

LOVE divine, all love excelling,
Joy of heav'n, to earth come down;
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,

All thy faithful mercies crown.

Breathe, Oh breathe thy loving Spirit, Into every troubled breast!

Let us all in thee inherit,

Let us find thy promis'd rest.

Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve thee as thy hosts above;
Pray, and praise thee without ceasing,
Glory in thy precious love.

Chang'd from glory into glory,
"Till in heav'n we take our place;
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

HYMN II.

JESU, lover of my soul,

Let me to thy bosom fly,

While the nearer waters roll,

While the tempest still is high:
my Saviour, hide,

Hide me,

Till the storm of life be past,

Safe into the haven guide,

O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none,

Hangs my helpless soul on thee; Leave, ah! leave me not alone,

[ocr errors]

Still support and comfort me: All my trust on thee is stay'd,

All my help from thee I bring; Cover my defenceless head

With the shadow of thy wing.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want; More than all in thee I find; Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, Heal the sick, and lead the blind: Just and holy is thy name;

I am all unrighteousness; Vile and full of sin I am;

Thou art full of truth and grace.

HYMN III.

BEFORE Jehovah's awful throne, He nations bow with sacred joy; Know that the Lord is God alone;

He can create, and he destroy.

His sov'reign pow'r, without our aid,
Made us of clay, and form'd us men:
And when like wand'ring sheep we stray'd,
He brought us to his fold again.

We'll crowd thy gates with thankful songs
High as the heav'ns our voices raise;
And earth, with her ten thousand tongues,
Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise.

Wide as the world is thy command,
Vast as eternity thy love;

Firm as a rock thy truth shall stand,
When rolling years shall cease to move.

BLOW

HYMN III.

ye the trumpet, blow The gladly solemn sound; Let all the nation's know,

To earth's remotest bound:

The year of Jubilee is come,
Return, ye ransom'd sinners, home.
