PSALMS and HYMNS.

PRAISE. *

1. Praise the Christian's Duty and delightful Privilege. Ps. 147. 1. Is. 43, 21. Col. 3. 16. Ps. 146. 2.

1 YE servants of the Lord,

Your cheerful voices raise
To him who call'd you by his word
To celebrate his praise.

2 Praise is a sweet employ,

And 'tis the Lord's command;
Let every heart exult with joy,
While in his courts ye stand.

30 keep his love in view,

Who bought us with his blood;
Praise, everlasting praise is due
To our redeeming God.

4 Praise with a gracious heart
Is heav'n begun below;

A sweet relief from toil and smart,
A med'cine for our woę,

B

5 Then praise him while ye live,
And praise him when ye die,
And never-ceasing praises give
To God, who dwells on high.

2. Exhortation to Praise. Ps. 135. 1, 4, 5, 6, 7. 1 PRAISE ye the Lord, O praise his name, Ye Saints your voices raise; Let sacred joy your hearts inflame Increasing with your praise.

2 Great is the Lord, he reigns alone,
His glory none can share ;

But all his saints are near his throne,
And his peculiar care.

3 Heav'n, earth, and sea confess his hand,
He bids the vapours rise;

And furious storms at his command
Rush through the sounding skies.

4 O Britain, know thy gracious God,
Serve him with faith and fear;
He makes thy churches his abode,
And claims thy honours there.

3. The Servant of God exciting his Soul to Praise. Ps. 103. 1-S.

10 BLESS the Lord, my soul,

And all within me join

To bless and to exalt his name,
Whose honours are divine.

2 O bless the Lord, my soul,
Whose mercies crown thy days;
Nor all his benefits forget,
Which claim unceasing praise.
3 He pardons all thy sins,
And thy disease subdues,

Redeems thee from the threat'ning grave,
And all thy strength renews.

4 He fills thy life with good

From his unbounded store:
The oppressor's aim the Lord defeats,
And saves the humble poor.

5 His just and awful law

By Moses was made known;
But he reveal'd his truth and grace
By his beloved Son.

4. Invitation to Praise.

1 AWAKE, and sing the song
Of Moses and the Lamb;

Wake ev'ry heart, and ev'ry tongue
To praise the Saviour's name.

2 Sing of his dying love,

Sing of his rising pow'r:
Sing how he intercedes above
For those whose sins he bore.

3 Sing with melodious heart
Ascending with the tongue;
Let ev'ry meaner joy depart,
And grace inspire the song.
4 Sing on your heav'nly way,
Ye ransom'd sinners sing;
Sing on, rejoicing ev'ry day

In Christ the eternal King.

5 Soon shall your raptur'd tongue
His endless praise proclaim;
And sweeter voices swell the song
Of Moses and the Lamb.

5. Praise to God our Preserver.

1 ALMIGHTY Father, gracious Lord,
Kind Guardian of our days,

Our hearts thy mercies would record
In songs of grateful praise.

2 In life's first dawn our tender frame
Was thy indulgent care,

Before our lips could speak thy name,
Or breathe the infant pray'r.

3 Perpetual dangers round us rose,
And snares beset our road;

No pow'r could guard us from our foes,
But our Preserver God.

4 Each year, each day new blessings brought From thy unbounded store;

And 'tis in vain our labouring thought
Would count thy mercies o'er.

5 But we would praise thee, gracious Lord, For favours more divine;

That we have known thy sacred word,
Where all thy glories shine.

6 And when no more we here unite,
And this weak frame decays,
Then place us with the sons of light,
Who give thee endless praise.

6. Christ the object of Praise. Rev. 5

1 COME let us join our cheerful songs
With angels round the throne;

Ten thousand thousand are their tongues,
But all their joys are one.

2 Worthy the Lamb that died, they cry,
To be exalted thus !

Worthy the Lamb! our lips reply,
For he was slain for us.

3 Jesus is worthy to receive
Honour and power divine;

And blessings more than we can give
Be, Lord, for ever thine.
