The requisites to be observed before ordination, are :

1st. To take the oaths of allegiance and supremacy. (1 Eliz. c. 1. and 1 Will. c. 8.) 2dly. To subscribe the Articles of Religion. (13 Eliz. c. 12.) 3dly. By Can. 3. to subscribe the three articles specified in the said canon respecting the king's supremacy, the Book of Common Prayer, and the XXXIX Articles of Religion.

Curates.

The following papers are necessary to be sent to the Bishop by a Curate to be licensed

1. The nomination of the Incumbent

Bachelor of Arts (or as the case may be), nominated to serve the Cure of in the island (or colony) of having been personally known to us for the space of three years last past, hath, during that time, lived piously, soberly, and honestly; nor hath he at any time, so far as we know or believe, held, written, or taught any thing contrary to the doctrine or discipline of the United Church of England and Ireland; and moreover, we believe him, in our consciences, to be a person worthy to be licensed to the said Curacy.

This testimonial is to be countersigned by the Bishop of the diocese in which each of the subscribers to the testimonial is beneficed, if they are not beneficed in the diocese of the Bishop to whom the testimonial is addressed.

Within three months after he is licensed, he is to read in the Church the declaration appointed by the Act of Uniformity, and also the certificate of his having subscribed it before the Bishop.

Institution to a Benefice.

FORM OF PRESENTATION TO A RECTORY.

To the Right Reverend Father in God, by divine permission, Lord Bishop of

I present to your Lordship, and to the Rectory and Parish Church of aforesaid, now void by the natural death (or resignation) of R. L. Clerk, the last Incumbent there, and to my presentation in full right belonging, my

beloved in Christ, S. T. Clerk, Master of Arts, humbly praying that your Lordship would be graciously pleased to admit, and canonically to institute him, the said S. T. to the Rectory and Parish Church of aforesaid, to invest him with all singular the rights, members, and appurtenances thereto belonging, to cause him to be inducted into the real, actual, and corporal possession thereof, and to do all other things which to your pastoral office may in this case appertain or belong.

In witness, &c.

This presentation must be tendered to the Bishop of the diocese. The Clerk must also produce his letters of orders, as Deacon and Priest, together with letters testimonial by three beneficed Clergymen. (See Letters testimonials for Priest's orders, only altering nominated to serve the cure of, and worthy to be licensed, to [presented to,]) and to be countersigned in the same manner.

He then receives the Bishop's mandate of induction, directed in general
