believe in Jesus have access into that grace, or favour, wherein his people stand. They are reconciled to God, and accepted in the beloved. O! what a privilege is this. It is a great matter to be in favour with the nobles and grandees of this world! But what is this when compared with the sunshine of God's countenance and love? Who would not willingly part with all the smiles of men for one token of God's approbation-one beam of his love?

My God! my life, my love!
To thee, to thee, I call,

I cannot live if thou remove,
For thou art all in all.

Thy shining grace can cheer
This dungeon where I dwell;

'Tis paradise if thou art here;
If thou depart, 'tis hell.

The smilings of thy face,

How amiable they are!

'Tis heaven to rest in thine embrace,
And no-where else but there.

Salvation includes dignity. There are many who have access to royalty that have little true nobility of soul. But none can have access into the presence of the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, without the possession of real dignity. All believers in Christ Jesus, therefore, are made sons of God, and heirs of im

mortal glory. Each one of them resembles the children of a king, wears royal apparel, sits down to royal banquets, is attended by royal servants, distinguished by royal honours, and possessed of all that true nobility which characterises the princes of God's people. This dignity is peculiar to believers, and associated with the bliss that never ends. It is secured by faith in Christ, and is shewn in holiness of heart and life. Wherever you see a holy man, there goes a man with the glory of God in his heart, countenance, and life; and the more holy a man becomes, the more dignity he possesses, and the more happy he feels himself.

Salvation includes glory. All the blessings. that are enjoyed by worldly men are bounded by their existence on earth. In eternity there is not reserved for them so much as a drop of cold water. But the happiness of the believer never terminates. Terminates! What can interrupt it? What can diminish it? What can destroy it? Death? No. No. No. At death it is only just beginning, when melody will be turned into rapture, and rapture into extacy, and when all will be melody, rapture, and extacy for ever. O! what news is this which the gospel brings to sinful men! It is the most melodious and heavenly that ever

reached their ears. It ought to cause every heart to bound with joy, and to glow with gratitude to God.

This salvation is by Jesus Christ. Behold my servant whom I uphold, saith the Lord God Almighty, in whom my soul delighteth. I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail, nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment on the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law. And thou shalt call his name Jesus, said the angel of the Lord to Joseph, for he shall save his people from their sins.

Jesus Christ is a mighty Saviour. His voice is like the thunderings of many waters. At his presence the mountains tremble, and the earth rocks to its foundations. By his allpowerful arm he gathers the winds in his fists, and binds the waters in a garment, takes up the isles as a very little thing, weighs the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance.

Jesus Christ is a willing Saviour. He is not more able than he is willing to effect the

salvation of men. Unto you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men. Come and let us reason together, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as snow; and though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. What reasons, then, can men produce to defend their obstinacy and guilt in neglecting his great salvation? There is not a reason in heaven, earth, or hell, why they should not be freed from the bondage of Satan, be translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God's dear Son, and be possessed with the fulness of the blessings of the gospel of Christ.

Jesus Christ is an only Saviour. He only can break the fetters of corruption and guilt, cause streams of light, liberty, and love, from his eternal throne, to descend upon the spirit, and place men secure in the enjoyment of unbounded felicity and bliss. Turn away from him, therefore, and you are undone. Reject him, and you are lost. Die without an interest in him, and you must for ever perish. How can you escape if you neglect so great salvation? If they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven. If the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear?

All the

Jesus Christ is a present Saviour. invitations which he gives sinners to come to him refer to the present moment. In his holy word it is no where said, come to Christ tomorrow, next week, month, or year-on a sick bed, or in a dying hour. The invitation is, Come now. And why is the sinner to seek salvation now?

The blessings of salvation are rich and free. Christ is an overflowing fountain of knowledge, life, peace, and joy. The fountain of the Duke of Devonshire, at Chatsworth, is called the " emperor fountain," and is said to "throw its streams to the height of two hundred and thirty-seven feet, and that no other fountain in the world throws a column so high." But what is this when compared with the fountain of Christ, or does it throw its streams to the height of Christ's fountain? Its streams can reach me, and men at the antipodes also. Hear what Christ himself says, In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood, and cried, saying, if any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. What Christ uttered then, he utters now! And if any man thirst for the living streams, pant for the gifts which he has to bestow, let him come unto him, and be refreshed and enriched, whatever may be his rank, or station, caste or colour.
