millions of dollars, and increased, at many different peri-

This unfunded vague paper money supported its credit be-
yond expectation for about eighteen months, till it was
counterfeited by British adherents; it however fell to three
for one in 1777, and to near thirty in 1779, in the next
year it was sixty for one, and continued to depreciate till
in 1801 it was sold at three hundred for one, before it
ceased to circulate in 1802.
