iv. having at his command many sources of information not to be obtained by the generality of persons. The novel with which we commenced our first volume of 1847 is now presented, completed, to our readers; and we trust that “Paul Pevensey” has by no means disappointed the anticipations formed at the outset, by our just encomiums of an author so preeminently fitted to shine as a writer of fiction. While devoting attention to the literary part of “ The Mirror," we have been by no means unmindful of the dramatic or musical portion, which has hitherto afforded considerable satisfaction to those capable of judging of its merits. In conclusion, we have to express our determination to use our best exertions to render the ensuing volumes as worthy of attention as it is possible for us to do. We shall endeavour to secure only the best writers, and to preserve that variety of style and matter which has so frequently elicited approval of our undertaking Our thanks are due to the press, for the kind support they have hitherto afforded us, and our hope is that we may still continue to merit it. 1st June, 1848.
