PREFACE.

This treatise on the "IGNIS FATUUS, OR WILL-O'-THE-WISP, AND THE FAIRIES," like that on the "JOVIAL HUNTER OF BROMSGROVE," forms part of the materials for the proposed second edition of my little work on the "ANCIENT BRITISH, ROMAN, AND SAXON ANTIQUITIES OF WORCESTERSHIRE;" but I am induced first to give it in this separate form, in the hope that it may elicit some further information relative to our fast expiring Fairy Mythology.

LOWER WICK, NEAR WORCESTER,

February 13, 1846.

JABEZ ALLIES.
