We having accepted the faid Declaration, have, approved and ratify'd, and by these Presents do approve and ratify it; promising bona fide, and fincerely, to keep, maintain, and inviolably obferve it in all points, according to its Form and Tenor, without ever contravening it directly or indirectly, in any fort or manner whatsoever. In witnefs whereof, we have caus'd thefe Prefents to be fign'd by the Prefident of our Affembly, counterfign'd by our Regifter, and feal'd with our Great Seal. of the Netherlands, To all who fhall fee thefe Prefents, Greeting. The Treaty of Commerce, Navigation, and Marine Affairs, made, concluded, and agreed upon at Utrecht, April 11. 1713. between the Ambaffadors and Plenipotentiaries of his Moft Chriftian Majesty on the one part, and the Ambassadors and Plenipotentiaries of the Lords the States-General of the United Provinces of the Netherlands, on the other part.

HE Treaty of Peace concluded this Day between the Moft Chriftian King, and the Lords the States-General of the United Provinces, putting a stop to all the Caufes of Difcontent, which had for fome time alter'd the Affection which his Majefty always had for their Welfare and Profperity, according to the Example of the Kings his Predeceffors; and the faid Lords the States-General, renewing alfo the fame Paflion which they formerly fhew'd for the Grandeur of France, and the Sentiments of a fincere Acknowledgment of the Obligations and confiderable Advantages that they formerly received; his Majefty will omit nothing that may confirm it; and the fa'd States-General defiring no lefs to perpetuate it, have judg'd that there was no better and furer Method for that End, than to establish a free and perfect Correfpondence between the Subjects on both fides, and for that purpofe, to regulate their particular Interests in point of Commerce, Navigation, and Marine Affairs, by fuch Laws and Conventions, as are the most proper for preventing all Inconveniencies which might weaken their good Correfpondence: His faid Majefty, in Compliance with the Defire of the faid States-General, has order'd the Sieurs Nicolas, Marquis d'Huxelles, Marefchal of France, Knight of the King's Orders, and Lieutenant-General in the Government of Burgundy; and the Sieur Nicolas Mefnager, Knight of

the Order of St. Michael, his Ambaffadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiaries at the Affembly for the Negotiations of Peace; and the faid Lords the StatesGeneral, the Sieur James de Randwijck, Baron of Roffum, Burg-grave of the Empire, and Judge of the Town of Nimeguen; William Buys, Counfellor Penfionary of the City of Amfterdam; Bruno Vander Duf fen, Ancient Burgomafter, Senator and Counsellor Penfionary of the Town of Gouda, Affeffor in the Council of the Heemrades of Schieland, Dijkgrave of Crimpenerwaard; Cornelius van Gheel, Baron of Spanbrock and Bulkeftein,and Great Bailiff of the Franc, and of the Town of Sluys, Superintendant of the Fiefs ari fing from the Burgh of Bruges, belonging to the States; Frederick Adrian, Baron of Reede, Lord of Renfwoude, Emminkbuyfen, and Moerkerken, Prefident of the Nobility of the Province of Utrecht; Sicco de Geflinga, Grietman of Franequeradeel, Curator of the Univerfity of Franequer; Charles Ferdinand, Count of Inhuyfen and Kniphuysen, Baron of Wreedewold, &c. Deputies in their Affembly on the part of the States of Guelderland, Holland and Weftfriesland, Zealand, Utrecht, Friesland, Groningen, and the Ommelands, their Ambaffadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiaries in the faid Congrefs of Peace, to confer and agree, by vertue of their Powers refpectively produced,a Copy whereof is fubjoin'd, about a Treaty of Commerce and Navigation, in manner as follows.

I.

HE Subjects of his Majefty and the Lords the States-General of the United Provinces of the Netherlands, fhall reciprocally enjoy the fame Liberty, in point of Commerce and Navigation, as was enjoy'd at all times before this War, by all the Kingdoms, States, and Provinces on both fides.

II.

Nor will they, for the future, exercife any kind of Hoftilities or Outrages against each other, either by Land or Sea, or in the Rivers, Roads, and fresh Waters, under any Name or Pretence whatfoever;

nor

nor fhall the Subjects of his Majefty take any Commiffions for particular Armaments, or Letters of Mart of the Princes and States who are Enemies of the faid Lords the States-General, much lefs disturb or any ways damage them, by vertue of fuch Commiffions or Letters of Mart, nor even go a cruizing with them, on Pain of being profecuted and punished as Pyrates; which fhall be likewife obferv'd by the Subjects of the United Provinces, with regard to his Majesty's Subjects; and for this end, very express and precife Prohibitions fhall be publifh'd, and renew'd at all times, and as often as it fhall be requifite, in the Territories under the Obedience of his Majefty, and in the United Provinces, against using fuch Commiffions or Letters of Mart in any wife, under the Penalty abovemention'd, which shall be feverely executed against the Contraveners, befides the entire Reftitution which they fhall be obliged to make to thofe whom they have done any Damage to.

III.

And the more to obviate all Inconveniences which might arife from Prizes taken through Inadvertency, or otherwife, and chiefly in diftant Places, 'tis ftipulated and agreed, That if any Prizes are taken on either fide, in the Baltick-Sea, or in the North-Sea, from Terneufe in Norway, to the Mouth of the Channel, within the Space of Four Weeks; or from the Mouth of the faid Channel to Cape St. Vincent, within the Space of Six Weeks; and from thence to the Mediterranean, and as far as the Line, within the Space of Ten Weeks, and beyond the Line, and in all other Parts of the World, in the Space of Eight Months, reckoning from the Publication of thefe Prefents, the faid Prizes and Damages, which fhall be done to either fide, after the Terms prefix'd, fhall be accompted for; and all that has been taken fhall be reftor'd, with Reparation of all the Damages arifing therefrom.
