A want of unity in teaching is the chief cause of the acknowledged inefficiency of Day and Sunday Schools. According to the prevailing practice, it is impossible to set up a comparison of the Classes; as each Teacher reserves to himself independence in the selection of his subject. To obviate the evil, this System proposes to classify the whole School into five divisions, and to engage the attention of all the Classes on the same subject; to effect which it must be given to the lowest Classes in the merest outline, and progressively expand through the intermediate stages to the highest Grade. The period that has elapsed since the introduction of this System has sufficiently tested its principles and advantages; while its success over early-acquired prejudices, long-continued habits, and individual preferences, satisfactorily evidences its universal adaptation and superiority.
