Mr. Fairfield submitted the following resolution:

Resolved, That the 16th joint rule of the Senate and House of Representatives be, and hereby is, suspended for the purpose of admitting bills and resolutions passed in either house this day being sent to the other.

The Senate proceeded to consider the resolution by unanimous consent. Resolved, That this resolution pass.

Ordered, That the Secretary request the concurrence of the House of Representatives therein.

A message from the House of Representatives, by Mr. French, their Clerk: Mr. President: The House of Representatives have passed the bill (S. 190) to provide for the punishment of piracy in certain cases.

They agree to the amendment of the Senate to the bill (H. R. 684) to amend an act entitled "An act to amend an act to carry into effect in the States of Alabama and Mississippi the existing compacts with those States with regard to the five per cent. fund and the school reservations.'

They agree to the report of the committee of conference on the disagreeing votes of the two houses on the bill (H. R. 638) to establish certain post

routes.

Mr. Niles, from the committee of conference on the part of the Senate on the disagreeing votes of the two houses on the bill (H. R. 638) to establish certain post routes, reported:

"That they have met the conferees on the part of the House, and, after free and full conference upon the subject of said disagreeing votes, have agreed to recommend, and do recommend to their respective houses, that the House recede from their amendment to the amendment of the Senate, being section third, and that the Senate recede from that amendment to the bill; that the Senate concur in the amendment of the House by striking out all in the fifth section after the word "postage," in the eighth line of said section, to the word "provided," in the eighteenth line, and by striking out all after the word "army," in the twenty-second line of the same section."

The Senate proceeded to consider the said report: and

Resolved, That they concur therein, and that the bill be amended accordingly.

Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives thereof. The Vice President laid before the Senate a report signed G. M. Dallas, Vice President of the United States, and Asbury Dickins, Secretary of the Senate, made in pursuance of the joint resolution of 3d August, 1846, exhibiting their proceedings and the persons who have become contractors for the 30th Congress: which was read, and ordered to be printed.
