Mr. Bright reported from the committee that they had presented to the President of the United States the enrolled bill entitled "An act authorizing the issue of treasury notes, a loan, and for other purposes."

Mr. Sevier presented the credentials of the Hon. Chester Ashley, chosen a Senator by the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas for six years, commencing the 4th day of March, 1847: which were read.

Mr. Johnson, of Louisiana, from the Committee on Pensions, to whom was referred a joint resolution (S. R. 3) to correct an error in the act of June 17, 1844, for the relief of Mary Ann Linton, reported it with an amendment: which was read.

Mr. Butler, from the Committee of Claims, to whom was referred the memorial of the representatives of Jacob Housman, submitted an adverse report: which was ordered to be printed.

Agreeably to notice, Mr. Jarnagin asked and obtained leave to bring in a joint resolution (S. R. 9) of thanks to General Z. Taylor and the army under his command: which was read, and passed to the second reading.

Agreeably to notice, Mr. Woodbridge asked and obtained leave to bring in a bill (S. 130) declaring the assent of Congress to the sale of certain lands heretofore granted to the State of Michigan, with the salt springs therein: which was read the first and second times, by unanimous consent, and referred to the Committee on Public Lands.

Mr. Woodbridge, agreeably to notice, asked and obtained leave to bring in a joint resolution (S. R. 10) respecting the maps and charts of the surveys of the boundary lines of the United States of America with foreign states: which was read the first and second times, by unanimous consent, and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

On motion by Mr. Cass,

Ordered, That the report of the Committee on Foreign Relations on the memorial of William M. Blackford be recommitted to the Committee on Foreign Relations.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the bill, (S. 28,) on its third reading, to create the office of surveyor general of the public lands in the Territory of Oregon, and to grant donation rights to settlers therein, and for other purposes.

Mr. President: The House of Representatives have passed a bill (H. R. 596) making appropriations for the naval service for the year ending the 30th June, 1848; also, a joint resolution (H. R. 55) of thanks to Major General Zachary Taylor, the officers and soldiers under his command, for their conduct in storming the city of Monterey: in which bill and resolution they request the concurrence of the Senate.
