6 And 'Hamôr the father of Shechem went out unto Ya'aqôb to commune with him.

8 And 'Hamôr communed with [him], saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you give her unto him to wife.

9 And make ye marriages with us; give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.

10 And ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein.

*[Ya'aqôb and his sons answered 'Hamôr and Shechem, saying,]

15 Only on this condition will we consent with you; if ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;

16 Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

17 But if ye will not hearken to us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.

18 And their words pleased 'Hamôr, and Shechem 'Hamôr's son.

20 And 'Hamôr and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,

21 These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for, behold, the land is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.

22 Only on this condition will the men consent unto us to dwell with us, to become one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.

23 Shall not their cattle and their substance and all their beasts be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.

24 And unto 'Hamôr and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.

25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Ya'aqôb, Shime'ôn and Lêvy, Dinâh's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city unawares, and slew all the males.

28 They took their flocks and their herds and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the fields.

30 And Ya'aqôb said to Shime'ôn and Lêvy, Ye have troubled me, to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Kena'any and the Perizzy and I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and smite me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

XXXV. 6 And Ya'aqôb came to Luz, which is in the land of Kenâ'an, he and all the people that were with him.

9 And Elôhim appeared unto Ya'aqôb again, when he came from Paddan-Arâm, and blessed him.

10 And Elôhîm said unto him, Thy name is Ya'aqôb:

thy name shall not be called any more Ya'aqôb, but Yisrâêl shall be thy name: and he called his name Yisrâêl.

11 And Elôhîm said unto him, I am El Shadday (God Almighty): be fruitful and multiply: a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins.

12 And the land which I gave unto Abrâhâm and Yiçe'hâq, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

13 And Elôhîm went up from him in the place where he spake with him.

14 And Ya'aqôb set up a pillar in the place where he spake with him, a pillar of stone: and he poured out a drink offering thereon, and poured oil there

on.

15 And Ya'aqôb called the name of the place where Elôhîm spake with him, Bêth-Êl.

22 Now the sons of Ya'aqôb were twelve:

23 The sons of Lêâh; Reûbên, Ya'aqôb's firstborn, and Shime’ôn, and Levy, and Yehudah, and Yissachân, and Zebulûn:

24 The sons of Râ'hêl; Yôsêph, and Binyâmîn ;

25 And the sons of Bilhâh, Râ'hêl's handmaid; Dân, and Naphtâly:

26 And the sons of Zilpâh, Lêâh's handmaid; Gâd, and Asher: these are the sons of Ya'aqôb, which were born to him in Paddan-Arâm.

27 And Ya'aqôb came unto Yiçe'hâq his father to Mamrê, to Qiryath-Arba', where Abrâhâm and Yiçe'hâq sojourned.

28 And the days of Yiçe'hâq were an hundred and fourscore years.

29 And Yiçe'hâq gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people old and full of days; and 'Êsâv and Ya'aqôb his sons buried him.
