10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; every male among you shall be circumcised.

11 And ye shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of a covenant betwixt me and you.

12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

14 And the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people: he hath broken my covenant.

15 And Elôhîm said unto Abrâhâm, As for Sâray thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sâray, but Sârâh shall her name be.

16 And I will bless her, and moreover I will give thee a son of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations: kings of peoples shall be of her.

17 Then Abrâhâm fell upon his face, and laughed (yiçe'haq), and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sârâh, that is ninety years old, bear?

18 And Abrâhâm said unto Elôhim, Oh that Yishmâ'êl might live before thee!

19 And Elôhîm said, Nay, but Sârâh thy wife shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name Yiçe'hâq:

and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him.

20 And as for Yishmâ'êl, I have heard thee: behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

21 But my covenant will I establish with Yiçe'hâq, which Sârâh shall bear unto thee at this set time in the

next year.

22 And he left off talking with him, and Elôhîm went up from Abrâhâm.

23 And Abrâhâm took Yishmâ'êl his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abrâhâm's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as Elôhîm had said unto him.

24 And Abrâhâm was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

25 And Yishmâ'êl his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 26 In the selfsame day was Abrâhâm circumcised, and Yishmâ'êl his son.

27 And all the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money of the stranger, were circumcised with him.

XIX. 29 And it came to pass, when Elôhîm destroyed the cities (of the Yardên), that Elôhîm remembered Abrâhâm, and sent Lôt out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lôt dwelt.

XXI. 1 And [Elôhim] visited Sârâh as he had said.

2 And Sârâh conceived, and bare Abrâhâm a son in his old age, at the set time of which Elôhîm had spoken to him.

3 And Abrâhâm called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sârâh bare to him, Yiçe'hâq.

4 And Abrâhâm circumcised his son Yiçe'hâq when he was eight days old, as Elôhîm had commanded him.

5 And Abrâhâm was an hundred years old when his son Yiçe'hâq was born unto him.

:

81 And the child grew, and was weaned and Abrâhâm made a great feast on the day that Yiçe❜hâq was weaned.

9 And Sârâh saw the son of Hâgâr, the Egyptian, which she had borne unto Abrâhâm, mocking.

10 Wherefore she said unto Abrâhâm, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Yiçe'haq. 11 And the thing was very grievous in Abrâhâm's sight on account of his son.

12 And Elôhîm said unto Abrâhâm, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bond woman; in all that Sârâh saith unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Yiçe'haq shall thy seed be called.

13 And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

14 And Abrâhâm rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave it unto Hâgâr,

Many critics assign this passage, from verse 8 to verse 21, to the book of what they term 'the second Elohist.'

putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beêr-Shâb'a.

15 And the water in the skin was spent, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

16 And she went, and sat her down over against him a long way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not look upon the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.

17 And Elôhim heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of Elôhîm called to Hâgâr out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hâgâr? fear not; for Elohim hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thy hand; for I will make him a great nation.

19 And Elôhîm opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

20 And Elôhîm was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Pârân: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Miçrâîm. XXIII. 1 And the life of Sârâh was an hundred and seven and twenty years: these were the years of the life of Sârâh.

2 And Sârâh died in Qiryath-Arb'a, in the land of Kenâ'an and Abrâhâm came to mourn for Sârâh, and to weep for her.

3 And Abrâhâm rose up from before his dead, and spake unto the Benê-'Hêth, saying,

4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give

me

a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

5 And the Benê-'Hêth answered Abrâhâm, saying unto him,

6 Hear us, my lord: Thou art a prince of Elôhîm among us in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.

7 And Abrâhâm rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the Benê-'Hêth.

8 And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and intreat for me to 'Ephron the son of Ço'har,

9 That he may give me the cave of Machpêlâh, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for the full price let him give it to me in the midst of you for a possession of a buryingplace.

:

10 Now 'Ephron was sitting in the midst of the Benê-'Hêth and 'Ephron the 'Hitty answered Abrâhâm in the audience of the Benê-'Hêth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,

11 Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead. 12 And Abrâhâm bowed himself down before the people of the land.

13 And he spake unto 'Ephrôn in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt, I pray thee, hear me: I will give the price of the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
