PSALM LXXXVI.

1 INCLINE. Thine ear, O JEHOVAH, answer me,

For I am afflicted and destitute.

2 Guard me, for I am Thy worshipper,

Save Thy servant, O God, who putteth his trust in Thee.

3 Be gracious unto me, O Lord,

For unto Thee do I cry, all the day long.

4 Gladden the spirits of Thy servant,

For unto Thee, O Lord, do I raise my thoughts.

5 Truly Thou, O Lord, art good and ready to forgive, Yea, abounding in loving-kindness unto all who call upon

6 Listen, O JEHOVAH, to my prayer,

And attend unto my supplicating voice.

7 In the day of my distress do I cry unto Thee, Because Thou art wont to answer me.

Thee.

8 There is no one, amongst the gods, like unto Thee, O Lord, Nor any works like Thine!

9 All the nations, whom Thou hast made, shall enter, And bow themselves down before Thee, O Lord,

And glorify Thy Name.

10 For Thou art great, and performest wonders,

THOU alone art God!

11 Teach me Thy way, O JEHOVAH,

Let me walk according to Thy truth;

Unite my heart unto Thee, that I may reverence Thy Name. 12 I will praise Thee, O Lord, my God, with my whole heart, And I will glorify Thy Name for ever;

PSALM LXXXVI.

6 my supplicating voice Heb. the voice of my supplications.

9 enter-i. e. into the courts of the temple. 11 unto Thee, that I may reverence-Heb. to the reverence of.

13 For Thy loving-kindness towards me is great,
Yea, Thou hast rescued me from the pit beneath.
14 O God, the proud have risen up against me,

And the company of the violent have sought my life;
They have not set Thee before their eyes.

15 But Thou, O Lord, art a merciful and gracious God,
Long-suffering, and abounding in loving-kindness and truth.
16 Turn Thou unto me, and be gracious to me;
Give Thy strength unto Thy servant,
And save the son of Thy handmaid.
17 Show towards me some token of good,

That those who hate me may see, and be ashamed, Because Thou, JEHOVAH, hast holpen and comforted me.

PSALM LXXXVII.

1 HIS foundation is upon the holy mountains!

2 JEHOVAH loveth the gates of Sion,

More than all the dwellings of Jacob.

3 Glorious things are announced of thee, O city of God!

4 "I will record Rahab and Babylon

"Amongst those who acknowledge Me.

“Behold, the Philistine, the Tyrian and the Cushite"These shall be born there."

5 Moreover, of Sion it is said:

"Divers nations shall be born in her!"

And "HE, who establisheth her, is the most High!"

6 JEHOVAH shall enrol them, when He numbereth His people: "These shall be born there."

7 Singing and dancing,

(they shall say)

"All the fountains of my delight are in thee."

PSALM LXXXVIII.

1 O JEHOVAH, God of my salvation,

Daily do I cry aloud, by night also, before Thee. 2 Let my prayer enter into Thy presence,

Incline Thine ear unto my cry.

3 For my soul is full of affliction,

And my life is verging to the grave.

4 I am regarded as those who are going down into the pit, I am become like a man who hath no strength;

5 As the dead, I am discarded

As the slain, who lie down in the grave,

Whom Thou rememberest no more,

And who are cut off from Thy protection. 6 THOU hast placed me in the pit beneathIn extreme darkness, in the deep abyss.

7 THINE indignation resteth upon me,

And Thou hast afflicted me with all Thy waves.

8 THOU hast removed mine acquaintance far from me, THOU hast made me an abomination to them.

I am shut up, and cannot go forth;

9 Mine eye is wasted by reason of my sorrow.
I have called upon Thee, O JEHOVAH, every day,
I have spread forth my hands towards Thee.
10 Wilt Thou perform wonders in favour of the dead?
Or can the lifeless rise up and praise Thee?

Shall Thy loving-kindness be declared in the grave-
THY faithfulness in the regions of death?

12 Shall Thy wonders be made known in the darkness,
And Thy righteousness, in the land of oblivion ?

13 As for me, unto Thee, O JEHOVAH, have I cried;

Yea, early in the morning doth my prayer come before Thee.

14 Wherefore, O JEHOVAH, dost Thou reject me? Wherefore dost Thou hide Thy face from me?

15 I am afflicted,

Yea, I am expiring, because Thou shakest me off!
I feel Thy terrors! I am distracted!

16 THY wrath passeth over me,

THY terrors utterly destroy me!

17 They encircle me, as floods of water, all the day,

They surround me on every side!

18 THOU hast removed my friends and companions far from me, Mine acquaintance are withheld from me.

PSALM LXXXIX.

1 I WILL sing continually the loving-kindnesses of JEHOVAH; To succeeding generations will I proclaim Thy faithfulness. 2 For I have said: THY loving-kindness is confirmed for ever; Like the heavens, dost Thou establish Thy faithfulness.

3

"I have made a covenant with My chosen one,

"I have sworn unto David, My servant;

4 "For ever will I establish thy seed,

“And maintain thy throne through successive generations."

5 The inhabitants of heaven praise Thy wonders, O JEHOVAHTHY faithfulness also, in the assembly of the holy ones. 6 For who in the clouds is comparable with JEHOVAH?

Who is like unto JEHOVAH amongst the sons of the mighty? 7 God is greatly to be dreaded in the council of the holy ones, And to be had in reverence, more than all around Him. 8 O JEHOVAH, God of Hosts!

Who is strong like unto Thee, O JEHOVAH?

And Thy faithfulness surroundeth Thee!

9 THOU hast dominion over the swelling sea;

When it lifteth up its billows, Thou stillest them.

10 THOU didst crush Rahab, like one mortally wounded; With Thy mighty arm didst Thou scatter Thine enemies. 11 THINE are the heavens, Thine also is the earth, The world and all things contained in it; THOU didst lay their foundations!
