33 Sing unto Him who rideth on the heavens, the ancient heavens. Behold! He uttereth His voice, a mighty voice! 34 Ascribe ye might unto God;

His majesty is over Israel,

And His might is in the clouds.

35 Fearful art Thou, O God,

When Thou comest forth from Thy sanctuary!
HE is the God of Israel!

HE giveth might and strength unto His people;
Blessed be God!

1 SAVE me, O God,

PSALM LXIX.

For the waters threaten my life;

2 I am sinking in the deep mire, Wherein is no standing;

I am come into the depths of the waters,

And the current floweth over me.

3 I am weary with calling upon Thee, my throat is parched; Mine eyes waste away, with looking earnestly for my God.

[blocks in formation]

4 Those who hate me, without cause,

Are more in number than the hairs of my head;
Those who would destroy me-

Those, who unjustly are mine enemies, are mighty.
I yield up to them forthwith

That, which I gained not by violence.
5 O God, Thou knowest my wickedness,
And my guilt is not hidden from Thee.

6 O Lord, JEHOVAH, God of Hosts!

Let not those, who trust in Thee, be disappointed through me. O God of Israel!

Let not those, who seek Thee, through me be brought to shame. 7 Because on Thine account have I borne reproachShame hath covered my face

8 I am become an alien unto my brethren,

And a stranger unto the sons of mine own mother.

9 Truly, zeal for Thine House

Hath devoured me;

And the reproaches of those, who reproach Thee,
Have fallen upon me.

10 When I weep with fasting,

It is turned into a reproach against me;

11 When I make sack-cloth my clothing,
I become unto them a by-word.

12 Those who sit at the gates speak against me,
And I am made the subject of the drunkards' song.
13 As for me, let my prayer come unto Thee,

In an acceptable time, O JEHOVAH;

[blocks in formation]

O God, through the abundance of thy loving-kindness,
Answer me with the truth of Thy salvation.

14 Deliver me out of the mire,

And let me not sink;

Let me be delivered from those who hate me,
And from the depths of the waters.

15 Let not the current of waters flow over me,
Let not the deep swallow me up;

Let not the pit close her mouth upon me.

16 Answer me, O JEHOVAH, for Thy loving-kindness is comfortable, According to the abundance of Thy mercies, turn towards me. 17 Hide not Thy face from Thy servant;

Because I am straitened, quickly answer me.

18 Draw nigh unto me, redeem me,

Liberate me, because of mine enemies.

19 THOU knowest my disgrace and my shame and my reproach; My many enemies are before Thee.

20 Reproach hath broken my heart, and I am weakened;

I look for some person to pity me, but there is no oneFor comforters, but I find them not.

21 Nay, they give me gall for my food,

And in my thirst, they offer me vinegar to drink.

22 Let their table, which is before them, become a snare, And their prosperity a trap.

23 Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, And cause Thou their loins to tremble continually.

24 Pour out Thine indignation upon them,

And let the heat of Thine anger overtake them.

25 Let their mansions be desolate,

And let there be no inhabitant in their tents;

26 For they persecute him whom Thou hast smitten,

And add to the distresses of those who are wounded by Thee. 27 Give them punishment upon punishment,

And let them not enter into Thy righteousness.

28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, And let them not be written amongst the righteous.

29 As for me, I am afflicted and distressed;

May Thy salvation, O God, raise me up! 30 I will praise the Name of God with a song, And magnify Him with thanksgiving;

31 And this will be more pleasing unto JEHOVAH than bulls— Than horned oxen with divided hoofs.

32 The humble, beholding me, shall rejoice;

And your hearts, O ye who seek God, shall revive; 33 Because JEHOVAH hearkeneth to the poor,

And neglecteth not His servants who are in bonds.

34 Let the heavens and the earth praise Him, The seas and all things which move therein; 35 For God saveth Sion,

And buildeth the cities of Judah;

That they may dwell there and possess it

36 Yea, that the posterity of His servants may inherit it, And that those, who love His Name, may abide therein.

PSALM LXX.

1 O GOD, hasten to deliver me;

O JEHOVAH, hasten to mine aid.

2 Let those, who seek my life,

Be brought to shame and confusion of face;
Let those, who delight in my calamity,

Be turned back with ignominy.

3 Let those be turned back, in consequence of their disappointment, Who say: "Aha, Aha!"

4 Let all, who seek Thee, be glad and rejoice in Thee; And let those, who love Thy salvation, say continually : "May JEHOVAH be magnified!"

5 As for me, I am afflicted and poor,

O God, hasten unto me.

THOU art my help and my deliverer;
O JEHOVAH, delay not.

PSALM LXXI.

1 WITH Thee, O JEHOVAH, do I take refuge; Let me never be put to shame.

2 In Thy mercy deliver me and rescue me, Incline unto me Thine ear, and save me.

3 Be Thou unto me a rock,

To which I may constantly betake myself for safety.
Give commandment to save me;

Truly, Thou art my rock and my fortress.
