An A&t to empower Grand Juries in Ireland, (or Perfons appointed by them,) to fell or exchange Ground that has been occupied by old Court Houfes, Gaols, or County Infirmaries, and the Materials thereon. [30th June 1808.]

7 HEREAS new Court Houfes, Gaols, and County Infirmaries have been built, or may hereafter be built in many • Counties in Ireland, and it is neceffary to enable Grand Juries to difpofe of the Ground on which fuch old Court Houfes, Gaols, and County Infirmaries ftand, and of any Buildings or Materials thereon, and to grant a fufficient Title thereto : May it therefore pleafe Your Majefty that it may be enacted;' and be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That in all Cafes, where the Grand Jury of any County or County of a City, or County of a Town, fhall have procured Ground to build or erect a new Court Houfe, Gaol, or County Infirmary, and that the fame is completed and in Ufe, and that fuch Grand Jury fhall conceive it expedient to fell, exchange, or otherwife difpofe of the Land occupied by or in any way appertaining to fuch old for Court Houles, Court Houfe, Gaol, or County Infirmary, or any Building thereon, in any County or County of a City or County of a Town in Ireland, it fhall and may be lawful for the Grand Jury, at any Affizes for any fuch County, or any County of a City, or County of a Town in which fuch old Court Houfe, Gaol, or County Infirmary is fituated, to appoint and nominate any Number of Perfons not lefs than Five, as Commiffioners to fell, exchange, or other wife difpose of any fuch Ground, or of any Building or Materials thereon; and fuch Commiffioners, or any Three of them fo appointed, fhall have full Power to fell by Auction, to exchange, or otherwife difpofe of any fuch Ground, or any Building thereon, or to difpofe of feparately or together of any Timber, Slates, Stones, Bricks, or other Materials thereon, and to make Contracts and Agreements for and concerning the fame, to fign Leafes or Deeds conveying the fame, and to call Matters and Things requifite for carrying fuch Agreements into due Execution for and on behalf of fuch County, County of a City, or County of a Town, fuch Agreement nevertheless, and the Leafes and Deeds conveying the fame, to be laid before the Grand Jury at the following Affizes, and if approved of by such Grand Jury, the Foreman is to affix his Name thereto, and the Money arifing from fuch Sale of fuch Ground or Materials fhall be paid to the Treafurer of fuch County, County of a City, or County of a Town, and by him placed to the Credit of the County at large, and may be difpofed of by the Grand Jury for or in Aid of any new

Court House, Gaol, or County Infirmary, or in fuch other Manner as by Law they fhall be entitled, for the general Advantage of fuch County, or County of a City, or County of a Town at large.

II. And whereas in many Cafes there is much Difficulty in making out a Title to Grounds that have been fo occupied by fuch old • Court Houses, Gaols, and County Infirmaries, although there has not appeared any Claimant thereto for many Years;' be it therefore enacted by the Authority aforefaid, Tat all fuch Ground, or any Buildings thereon, that has been occupied as aforefaid, for Sixty Years and upwards, in a peaceable and quiet Manner and without Claimant on Record in any Court of Law, fuch peaceable and quiet Poffeffion for Sixty Years fhall be confidered as a good and valid Title; and fuch Commiffioners fo appointed as aforefaid, or any Three of them, fhall have full Power and Authority to convey the Intereft, Fee, and Inheritance thereof in as large and as ample a Manner as the fame was held and enjoyed by the County; and fuch Conveyance by Deed, Leafe, or other Inftrument figned by fuch Commiffioners, or any Three of them, and approved of by the Grand Jury as aforefaid, shall be deemed, taken, and confidered as a good, fufficient, and valid Title in Law, faid Grand Jury nevertheless being firft fatisfied as to the due Payment of the Purchafe Money to the Treafurer as aforefaid, or as to any other valuable Confideration that may have been agreed for thereto; and it fhall and may be lawful for fuch Grand Jury to grant a Prefentment for all reafonable Expences attending the Difpofal and Conveyance of fuch Ground and Materials.

HEREAS it is expedient, pursuant to the Provifions of the Acts for the Union of Great Britain and Ireland, that, in respect of the Duties impofed upon Malt and Sugar and Spirits. made therefrom refpectively in Ireland, Duties thould be charged on Spirits imported into Ireland from Scotland, fufficient to countervail 'the faid Duties on Malt and Spirits made in Ireland: May it there. • fore please Your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent

Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That, from and after the paffing of this Act, there fhall be raised, granted, levied, collected, and paid unto His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, upon all Spirits imported into Ireland from any Part of Scotland, the feveral Countervailing Duties following, in lieu and . full Satisfaction of all Countervailing Duties whatever payable on such Spirits, under or by firtue of any Act or Acts in force in Ireland immediately before the passing of this A&t; that is to say, For and upon every Gallon of Spirits diftilled from Sugar, and imported into Ireland from any Part of Scotland, a Countervailing Duty of Eight Shillings and Five-pence British Currency:

And for and upon every Gallon of all other Spirits (not being Foreign Spirits), imported into Ireland, from any Part of Scotland, à Foreign) 5s. 8d. Countervailing Duty of Five Shillings and Eight-pence British Currency.

II. And be it further enacted, That on the Exportation from Ireland to any Part of Scotland, of any Spirits for or in refpect of which the internal Duties impofed by any Act made or to be made in this prefent Seffion of Parliament, fhall have been fully paid and fatisfied in Ireland, there fhall respectively be allowed and paid a Drawback equal in Amount to the respective Countervailing Duties, by this Act granted on the like Spirits refpectively, imported into Ireland from Scotland, in lieu of all Drawbacks payable in refpect of such Spirits exported from Ireland to Scotland, under or by virtue of any Act or Acts in force in Ireland, immediately before the paffing of this Act.

"Duties and Drawbacks fhall be levied and allowed as former Coun"tervailing Duties and Drawbacks. §3."

An Act for granting to His Majefty Rates of Poftage on the
Conveyance of Letters and Packets to and from the Ifland of
Madeira, and to and from the Portuguefe Territories on the
Continent of South America.

HEREAS it may be expedient for the Benefit of Commerce and Correspondence to establish One or more Packet Boats • between the Port of Falmouth, in the County of Cornwall, or fuch • other Port in this Kingdom, as His Majefty's Poft-master General fhall appoint, and the Ifland of Madeira and Brazil, or other of the • Territories and Poffeffions of the Crown of Portugal on the Continent of South America, in lieu of the Packet Boats lately employed between Great Britain and the Kingdom of Portugal:' Be it therefore enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and after the Establishment of Packet Boats between this Kingdom and the Island of Madeira, and between any of the Portuguese Territories on the Continent of South America, it fhall and may be lawful for His Majefty's Poft-mafter General and his Deputy and Deputies by him thereunto authorized, for the Ule of His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, to demand, have, receive,

and take for the Port and Conveyance of all and every the Letters and Packets that fhall be carried or conveyed by Packet Boats from or to the Port of Falmouth aforefaid, or from or to any other convenient Port in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, to or from the Ifland of Madeira, and to or from Brazil, or any of the Territories and Poffeffions of the Crown of Portugal, on the Continent of South America, over and above all other Rates payable for Conveyance of fuch Letters and Packets within the faid United Kingdom, a Packet Poftage according to the Rates and Sums in Sterling Money herein after mentioned; that is to fay,

For the Port and Conveyance of every Single Letter to or from Rates. the Ifland of Madeira, the Sum of One Shilling and Sixpence : For every Double Letter Three Shillings:

For every Treble Letter Four Shillings and Sixpence :

And for every Ounce Six Shillings; and fo in proportion for every Packet of greater Weight than an Ounce :

And for the Port and Conveyance of every Single Letter to or from Brazil, or any other the Territories and Poffeffions of the Crown of Portugal on the Continent of South America, the Sum of Two Shillings and Five-pence:

For every Double Letter Four Shillings and Ten-pence: For every Treble Letter Seven Shillings and Three-pence: And for every Ounce Nine Shillings and Eight-pence; and fo in proportion for every Packet of greater Weight than an Ounce. II. And be it further enacted, That from and after the Establishment of Packet Boats for the Purposes aforefaid, all and every the Claufes, Provifions, Powers, Privileges, Advantages, Difabilities, Penalties, and Methods for Recovery of the fame, and all other Matters and Things contained in any Act or Acts of Parliament relating to the Poft Office, fhall extend and be deemed and conftrued to extend to Letters and Packets to be conveyed between the faid United Kingdom and the Ifland of Madeira, and other the faid Territories and Poffeffions of the Crown of Portugal.

CA P. CXVII.

An Act for repealing the Duties upon Silks painted and stained, and for granting other Duties in lieu thereof.

HEREAS certain Duties of Excife are payable on Silks, printed, painted, ftained, or dyed, in Great Britain, and on Irif printed, painted, ftained, or dyed Silks, and Silk Handkerchiefs, and a Drawback is allowed thereupon; and it is expedient to repeal the fame, and to grant other Duties and a Drawback in lieu thereof;' Be it therefore enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That, from and after the paffing of this Act, all and fingular the faid Duties and Drawback fhall ceafe and determine and be no longer paid or payable, fave and exin all Cafes relating to the recovering, allowing, or paying, any 8
