Whereupon Mr. HUNTER offered the following joint resolution: Resolved (the Senate concurring), That the election of judge of the thirteenth judicial circuit be postponed until an investigation of the official conduct of the present incumbent shall be held.

The question being on agreeing to the resolution, was put and decided in the negative.

Mr. FRAZIER withdrew the name of James B. Dorman.

William S. Barton, James Keith, Robert II. Turner, Wm. MeLaughlin, Henry E. Blair, John II. Fulton and John A. Kelly, having each received a majority of all the votes cast, were declared duly elected judges for the tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth judicial circuits, respectively, for the term of eight years, commencing on the 1st day of January, 1879.

On notion of Mr. POPHAM, the House adjourned until to-morrow at 12 o'clock M.

A communication from the Senate by their clerk, was read as follows:

In Senate, December 19, 1878.

The Senate have passed House bills entitled an act to amend and re-enact section nineteen of an act entitled an act to provide for working the roads in the counties of Shenandoah and Page, approved February 6, 1878, No. 12; and an act to incorporate the Rappahannock Freedman's cemetery company, No. 17.

Senate joint resolution returning thanks to W. W. Corcoran, Esq., of Washington city, for the gift of a valuable painting was, on motion of Mr. Bocock, passed by.

Leave of absence was granted Messrs. SMITH of Albemarle two days, DANCE three days, and TALIAFERRO of Gloucester five days from 3d January, 1879, and indefinite leave for Mr. STARKE.

Mr. KYLE presented a bill in relation to county and corporation school funds; which was referred to the committee on schools and colleges, under rule No. 37.

Mr. LACY moved that the House do now adjourn; which was agreed to.

The SPEAKER declared the House adjourned until Friday, January 3d, 1879.
