A communication from the Senate by their clerk, was read as follows:

In Senate, March 31, 1879.

The Senate have indefinitely postponed House bill entitled an act revising and amending the registration and election laws, and repealing chapters 6, 7 and 8 of the Code of 1873, and all acts or parts of acts in conflict with this act, No. 285.

They have passed House bill entitled an act to relieve Milford B. Spencer of his disabilities under clause 3, section 1, article 3 of the constitution, No. 95.

They have agreed to joint resolution authorizing the superintendent of public buildings to remove fence of capitol square on Governor street on certain conditions.

And they have passed a bill entitled an act authorizing the sale of certain school-house and academy property in Jacksonville district, in Floyd county, No. 132.

In which joint resolution and bill they respectfully request the concurrence of the House of Delegates.

Senate joint resolution authorizing the superintendent of public buildings to remove fence of capitol square on Governor street on certain conditions, was read twice and referred to the committee on public property.

No. 132. Senate bill was read twice and placed on the calendar, the rule having been suspended, on motion of Mr. GRAVES, requiring its reference to a committee.

No. 16. Senate bill entitled an act for the relief of James Mason, of Grayson county, was placed on the calendar, the rule having been suspended, on motion of Mr. McCAULL, requiring its reference to a committee.

No. 116. Senate bill entitled an act for the preservation and repair of a battery of field guns and appurtenances, in possession of the Petersburg artillery, the property of the state, was read twice and

No. 14. Senate bill entitled an act providing for the payment to Mrs. Sally C. Pickett, assignee of James W. Frazier, a sum due the said Frazier on account of arms and quartermaster's stores furnished the state, was reported from the committee on finance.

No. 83. House bill to amend the act of March 25, 1872, relating to creeks in Charlotte county, heretofore committed to the committe on counties, cities and towns, was reported back with an amendment. On motion of Mr. GRAVES,

Resolved, That when the House adjourns to-day, it adjourn to meet at 12 o'clock M. to-morrow.

Mr. HENRY offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the report of the joint committee to examine the offices of the second auditor and the treasurer in regard to the double funding and abstraction of state bonds made at the session of the legislature of 1877-78, be printed among the documents of this session. (Doc. No. 9.)

The House refused to refer the resolution to a committee.
The resolution was agreed to.

No. 107. House bill to authorize and direct the board of supervisors of Greene county to pay Arthur Stevens for his services as judge in a road case in the county court of said county at its February term, 1879, was, on motion of Mr. McMULLAN, taken up out of its order on the calendar.

No. 55. House bill entitled an act to prevent and prohibit hog-pens, and the keeping of hogs therein, within the corporation limits of the city of Alexandria, was, on motion of Mr. HUNTER, passed by.

No. 65. Senate bill entitled an act to authorize the governor to employ counsel to sue for a legacy bequeathed by Peter Curran, Esq., to the board of the literary fund, was, on motion of Mr. MOFFETT, laid on the table.
