They have agreed to amendments proposed by the House of Delegates to Senate bill entitled an act to provide for an inspection of cattle, No. 13.

And they have passed a bill entitled an act to prohibit public executions, No. 119.

In which they respectfully request the concurrence of the IIouse of Delegates.

No. 119. Senate bill was read twice and placed on the calendar, the rule having been suspended on motion of Mr. BOHANNAN, requiring its reference to à committee.

The following Senate bills were read the first and second time, and on motions (severally made) the rules were suspended and they were placed on the calendar:

No. 100. Senate bill to amend and re-enact the 6th section of the 56th chapter, Code 1873, so as to include the directors of the Deaf, Dumb and Blind institution; of the Western lunatic asylum; of the Eastern lunatic asylum, and of the Central lunatic asylum (on motion of Mr. HANGER).

No. 131. Senate bill concerning state bonds donated by William W. Corcoran to the University of Virginia, for the endowment of a professorship of natural science therein (on motion of Mr. HANGER).

No. 73. Senate bill to amend and re-enact section 5 of chapter 32 of the Code of 1873, in relation to the assessment of the lands of the commonwealth (on motion of Mr. GRAVES).

No. 74. Senate bill to refund a sum of money improperly assessed on the buildings of the Central lunatic asylum (on motion of Mr. HENRY).

No. 70. Senate bill requiring all applicants for relief which involves the payment of money out of the treasury, or the release of a claim or demand due the state, to have the facts certified by the courts (on motion of Mr. LOVELL).

No. 68. Senate bill to amend and re-enact section 2, chapter 158, Code 1873, in reference to exemptions of fireman from jury service (on motion of Mr. DAVIS).

On motion of Mr. HANGER, the rule was suspended requiring the reference of Senate bills to committees.

No. 64. Senate bill authorizing the state treasurer to procure coupon registers.

No. 115. Senate bill to provide for the punishment of persons convicted of petit larceny in the city of Norfolk.

No. 109. Senate bill to relieve Charles W. and Jacob L. Harris, of Scott county.

No. 54. Senate bill entitled an act for the relief of W. B. Beach, of Prince Edward county, was reported from the committee on finance. No. 96. Senate bill entitled an act to complete the organization of the Atlantic, Mississippi and Ohio railroad company, approved March 6th, 1872, touching the condemnation of stock in certain other railroad companies, was reported from the committee on roads and internal navigation.

No. 154. House joint resolution directing the superintendent of public buildings to remove part of the wall of the public square on Franklin street on certain conditions, reported from the committee on public property, was read a first time.

Mr. HANGER offered the following resolution :

Resolved, That the order for vacating the chair at 23 o'clock be rescinded, and that when the House adjourns to-day it adjourn to meet on Wednesday at 12 M.

On motion of Mr. HARRISON of Rockingham, the resolution was laid on the table.

Mr. MCCAULL moved to suspend the rule to place on the calendar a bill to repeal an act entitled an act to provide a plan of settlement of the public debt, passed March 26, 1879, and to submit the same to the people for their ratification or rejection; which was rejected—yeas 32; nays 49.

No. 112. Senate bill entitled an act providing that fifty per centum of all public free school warrants shall be receivable for taxes, debts, dues and demands due the commonwealth.

No. 95. Senate bill entitled an act prescribing terms on which convicts shall be hired to counties, cities and towns and internal improvement companies.

No. 126. Senate bill entitled an act for the relief of the Union carworks manufacturing company.

A message was received from the Senate by Mr. SMITH, who informed the House that the Senate had passed the following bills and agreed to the following joint resolution:

No. 85. Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 30, chapter 78, of the Code of 1873, so as to reduce the pay of school district clerks.

No. 84. Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact the 12th and 13th sections of chapter 78 of the Code of 1873, as amended by an act approved March 29th, 1877, so as to reduce the pay of county superintendents of schools.

No. 30. Joint resolution instructing the board of public works to make enquiries concerning the condition and relations of the Atlantic, Mississippi and Ohio railroad company, and the Norfolk and Petersburg, the Southside, and Virginia and Tennessee railroad companies, and to take steps to ascertain the rights and interests of creditors and stockholders in said railroad companies, including those of the commonwealth.

A message was received from the Senate by Mr. KOINER, who informed the House that the Senate had agreed to a joint resolution fixing time of adjournment of general assembly for 1st April, 1879, in which they respectfully request the concurrence of the House.
