Resolved, That the committee on roads and internal navigation enquire into the expediency of providing by law that any person employed by any railroad company in the state, who shall be disabled by any injuries received while in actual service of said company, that the same wages shall be paid him during such disability as before.

By Mr. CARTER of Loudoun: A bill to repeal an act to amend and re-enact section 73, chapter 61, of the Code of 1873, in regard to abandoned turnpikes. Referred to committee on roads and internal navigation.

By Mr. SHUMATE: Petition of citizens of upper Fauquier in regard to amending the constitution so as to allow taxes for free school purposes to be retained and disbursed in the county where collected. Referred to the joint committee on constitutional amendments.

The morning hour having expired the House proceeded to the business on the calendar.

The motion of Mr. SMITH of Dinwiddie, to reconsider the vote by which No. 32, House engrossed bill to extend the time for the repeal of the present fence law in the magisterial district of Rowanty, in the county of Dinwiddie, was passed, came up.

On motion of Mr. BERNARD, the motion to reconsider was postponed until Friday next.

No. 38. Senate bill entitled an act to incorporate the town of Daniel, in the county of Campbell, was read a third time and passed.

Mr. GRAVES moved a reconsideration of the vote by which the bill was passed; which motion was rejected.

Senate joint resolution to furnish the senators from Virginia in Congress with Hotchkiss' Summary of Virginia, came up.

Mr. DAVIS moved to amend the joint resolution by inserting after "senators" the words "and representatives;" which was rejected. Mr. STEVENS offered a substitute, which was rejected.

The Senate joint resolution was agreed to-yeas 96; nays 3.

No. 45. House engrossed bill to authorize courts, or judges thereof in vacation, or justices of the peace, to order sales of personal property seized under writs of fieri facias or under distress warrants, in cases where such property is expensive to keep or perishable.

No. 47. House engrossed bill granting a loan of arms of the state to the principal of the Suffolk military academy.

No. 34. House engrossed bill for the relief of Francis J. Waggle of Lee county, was read a third time and passed by a two-thirds vote. No. 49. House engrossed bill to amend and re-enact sections 4, 8, 11 and 34, of an act entitled an act to amend the charter of the city of Alexandria, approved February 20, 1871, as amended by an act approved March 22, 1871, and by an act approved March 17, 1876, and by an act approved March 20, 1877, came up.

Mr. MUSHBACH moved a reconsideration of the vote by which the bill was ordered to be engrossed; which motion was agreed to.

Mr. MUSHBACH moved to amend the bill by inserting in the 19th line, after the word "until," the words "the first day of July in ;" which was agreed to.

The bill, as amended, was ordered to be engrossed to be read a third time.

In Senate, January 8, 1879. The Senate have passed bills entitled an act to provide for the relief of Thomas L. Jones of Hanover county, No. 7; an act authorizing the rent of the court-house of Prince Edward county for lectures and exhibitions, and for other purposes, No. 10; an act to amend and reenact section 2 of an act entitled an act for the protection of game, approved March 14, 1878, No. 31; an act to provide for the election of four commissioners of the revenue for the county of Fauquier, No. 57; an act to amend and re-enact section 19, chapter 77, Code of Virginia, edition of 1873, concerning the board of visitors of the Virginia agricultural and mechanical college at Blacksburg, No. 58; and an act to amend and re-enact the fifth section of the act to incorporate the medical college of Virginia, passed February 25, 1854, No. 42; in which bills they respectfully request the concurrence of the House of Delegates.

Leave of absence was granted Mr. SYKES two days.

Mr. FRAZIER, under a suspension of the rule, offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the auditor of public accounts report to this House by what authority he paid certain officers of the same the extra compensation allowed by the committee on House expenses.
