325. LEONARD' CUTLER, (Asa, Joel,5 Abner, Thomas, James1) a farmer, was born in Brattleboro, Vt. ried Vilona, daughter of Richard Church of Elba, N. Y. He died in Union, Fulton County, Ill., in 1881. Mr. Cutler resided at Clarkson and Elba, N. Y., previous to 1837, when he went to Lake County, Ind., in 1842, to La Porte, but returned to Lake County in 1847. In 1850 he joined a company who went to California by the overland route, like most people who went at the time of the gold excitement. He only remained two years when he returned to Indiana via Panama and New York. Children: i. Sophia, b. Aug. 2, 1832, in Elba, N. Y.; m. Rev. James Brownlee, July 6, 1870. Had: Vilona Cora Brownlee,

326. GARDNER CHANDLER CUTLER (Jonas,6 Joel, Abner, Thomas, Thomas, James1) was born in Hinsdale, N. II., April 1, 1807. He married Olive Hildreth Watts, who was born September 3, 1806. They resided successively in Keene, Charlestown and Alstead, N. II., at the latter place he died. Mrs. Cutler died April 25, 1854. Children:

i. Gardner C.8, Jr., b. Jan. 12, 1831, in Brattleboro, Vt.; d. Sept. 4, 1839, in Charlestown, N. H.

ii. George Ingersoll, b. Dec. 10, 1833, at Keene, N. H. After attending the common schools he received the advantages afforded by a course of study in the Alstead, N. H., and Brattleboro, Vt, high schools, and several terms at Westminster Seminary, Vt., under the late Prof. L. F. Ward, fitting himself for teaching, which he successfully followed, holding the position of Principal in different graded schools. In 1860 he began the study of medicine under Dr. D. L. M. Cummings, continuing the same with Dr. Wm, M. French of Alstead (now of Washington, D. C.). In 1864 he graduated from the Medical department of the Vermont University at Burlington, and in the following February settled at West Swanzey, N. H., where by his recognized ability and kindly courtesy he has deservedly acquired an extensive practice. Politically Dr. Cutler is a Democrat. Since 1867 he has held the position of Town Clerk and Superintendent of Schools. "This is but a fair showing of the confidence he enjoys with the townspeople and the general respect. they entertain for him." At the present time (1888) he is a member of the Examining Board of Surgeons for Pensions at Keene, N. H. He m. Feb. 14, 1866, E. Jennie, daughter of Arvin Aldrich, Esq., of East Westmoreland; no ch.
