Majesty," to amend the Representation of the People of
Ireland," in respect of the Right of Voting in the Univer-
sity of Dublin.

HEREAS an Act was passed in the Session of Parliament Preamble: holden in the second and third years of his late Majesty's c. 88. reign, intituled, "An Act to amend the Representation of the People of Ireland," whereby it was, among other things, enacted, that every person whose name should be continued upon the books of the University of Dublin, for the purpose of entitling him to vote at the Election of Members to serve in Parliament for the said University, should be liable to pay to the College of Dublin an annual sum of One Pound, and that upon the refusal of any such person to pay the said annual sum of One 10 Pound within One Month after the same should have been demanded, his name should be removed from said books, and should not be again replaced thereon: And whereas the said annual payment has been found inconvenient, and doubts have arisen as to the effect of the provisions of the said Act in respect of the demand therein mentioned, 15 and it is expedient to amend the said Act in those respects; BE it therefore Enacted, by The QUEEN's most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT so much of the said recited Act as makes The annual every Elector of the said University liable to pay to the said College 1. required an annual sum of One Pound shall be and is hereby repealed, without by said Act

AND whereas in some cases the said College has compounded with the persons liable to the said annual payment of One Pound, under the provisions of the said Act, for a gross sum of Five Pounds for their respective lives; BE it Enacted, That all persons having made such composition shall be entitled to have their names continued on the books of said University for their respective lives, and to vote at any Election for Members to serve in Parliament for the said University, without any further payment, save One Shilling 10 septennially, as hereinafter provided.

And be it Enacted, That every person whose name shall, at the passing of this Act, be upon the books of said University, and who shall not have so compounded, who shall be desirous of the right to vote at any such Election, shall, on or before the First day of 15 December in the present year, pay to the said College the sum of

and all arrears Five Pounds, together with all arrears due to the said College in respect of the said annual payment of One Pound; or every such person may, at his option, pay to the said College such sum as, Sums already together with the sums already paid by him in respect of such 20 annual payment, shall amount to the sum of Ten Pounds in the whole; and in default of such payment, and without any demand thereof, the name of such person shall be removed from the books of the said University, and shall not be replaced thereon.

And be it Enacted, That every person whose name shall be upon 25 the College books of the said University, and who shall have obtained a Fellowship or Scholarship, or any higher degree in the said College, and every person who shall hereafter obtain a Fellowship or Scholarship, or the degree of Master of Arts, or any higher degree in the said College, and who shall be desirous of having his name placed on the 30 books of the said University, for the purpose of voting at any such Election, shall, before the First day of December next after his name shall be removed from the said College books, pay to the said College the sum of Five Pounds, and thereupon his name shall be placed upon the books of the said University; and he shall be entitled to vote at 35 any such Election for his life, without any further payment, save One Shilling septennially, as hereinafter provided.

Provided always, and be it Enacted, That every person having his name on the said College books shall be considered for all purposes as having his name on the books of the said University; but that the 40 payments to be made by such person shall be regulated by the statutes and customs of the said College.

And

And be it Enacted, That every Graduate of the said University, not being an Elector thereof, and being desirous of having his name kept on the books of the said College for the purpose of becoming an Elector thereof, shall pay to the said College the sum of One Pound 5 annually in the month of November in each year; and in default of such payment, and without any demand thereof, his name shall be removed from the said books, and shall not be replaced thereon.

And be it Enacted, That in the month of December in every year after the passing of this Act, the Registrar of the said College shall 10 make out an alphabetical list of the names of the Electors entitled to vote at any such Election; and the said Registrar shall cause copies of such list to be printed in the month of January in each year, and shall give a copy of such list to any Elector applying for the same, upon being paid Two Shillings and Sixpence for each copy.

And be it Enacted, That the said Registrar shall annually revise and correct such list, and shall expunge there from the name of every Elector whom the said Registrar shall be informed and believe to be dead; and the name of such Elector shall be removed from the books of the said University: Provided always, That in case the name of 20 any Elector shall have been expunged upon the supposition that he was dead, and it shall appear that such Elector is still living, his name shall immediately be restored, and again placed upon the books of the said University and such list.

And be it Enacted, That every Elector whose name shall be upon the books of the said University shall, in the month of November in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and Forty-nine, and in the month of November in every successive seventh year, pay to the said Registrar, without any demand thereof, the sum of One Shilling; and in default of such payment, the name of such Elector shall be removed from the books of the said University and such list, and shall not be replaced thereon, unless it shall first have been replaced upon the said College books, conformably to the statutes and customs of the said College.

And be it Enacted, That this Act may be altered, amended or repealed by any Act to be passed in this present Session of Par

liament.

To enable Her Majesty to grant Furlough Allowances to the Bishops of Calcutta, Madras, and Bombay, who shall return to Europe for a limited Period, after residing in India a sufficient Time to entitle them to the highest Scale Pension.

HEREAS by law the Salaries of the Bishops of Calcutta, Preamble.

W Madras, and Bombay, respectively, are payable to them

respectively only so long as they respectively exercise the functions of their several offices in the East Indies, and no longer; and the Pensions which Her Majesty is empowered to grant to such Bishops, respectively, can by law be granted only on their respective resignation of their said offices:

And whereas it is expedient to enable Her Majesty to make a moderate provision for such of the said Bishops who, after such resi10 dence in the East Indies as hereinafter mentioned, shall, with Her Majesty's permission, return to Europe for a period not exceeding Eighteen calendar Months; and also to provide for making a further payment to the Bishop of Madras and the Bishop of Bombay respectively, if, during such absence of the Bishop of Calcutta, such Bishop 15 of Madras or Bombay shall perform the functions of the said Bishop of Calcutta ;

BE it Enacted, by The QUEEN's most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT in case Her Majesty shall be pleased from time to time, or at any time, to grant permission to any Bishop
