Mr. W. A. Wheeler moved to reconsider the vote by which said bill was said to have been passed, and that that motion lay on the table.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

The Assembly bill entitled "An act to enable the supervisors of the city and county of New York to raise money by tax," being on its third reading,

By unanimous consent, Mr. Ames moved to strike out the following amendment made by the select committee of the Senate, viz: “$250,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary to complete the contract already entered into by the Commissioners of Records, who are hereby prohibited from entering into any further contracts."

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the negative, as follows:

By unanimous consent, Mr. Ames moved to strike out the amendment to said bill, made by the select committee of the Senate, "$880,000" and insert "$640,000,"

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to the final passage of said bill, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the members elected to the Senate voting in favor thereof, and three-fifths of said members being present, as follows:

Ordered, That the Clerk return said bill to the Assembly, with a message informing that the Senate have passed the same, with amendments.

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of the Assembly bill entitled as follows:

“An act making appropriations for certain expenses of government for the year 1859.”

And after some time spent therein, Mr. Laflin, from said committee, reported progress on said bill, and asked and obtained leave to sit again.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Diven called for the consideration of the following resolution:

Resolved, (if the Assembly concur,) That the Legislature will adjourn, sine die, on Saturday, April 16, at 12 o'clock, noon.

Mr. Diven moved to amend by striking out "12 o'clock, noon," and inserting "10 o'clock, P. M.”

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

The President then put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, as amended, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Ordered, That the Clerk deliver said resolution to the Assembly, and request their concurrence therein.

A message was received from His Excellency the Governor, by his Private Secretary, in the words following, to wit:

Mr. Sloan moved that the Senate now take a recess until half-past three o'clock.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

The Senate then resolved itself into a committee of the whole, and proceeded to the consideration of the special order, being the Assembly bill entitled as follows:

“An act making appropriations for certain expenses of government for the year 1859."

And after some time spent therein, Mr. Laflin, from said com

mittee, reported in favor of the passage of said bill, with amend

ments.

Mr. Truman renewed the amendment made in committee of the whole, to strike out in the item to commissioners of pilots, "$19,735," and insert "$10,150."

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative, as follows:

By unanimous consent, Mr. Lamont had leave to offer the following, as an additional item to the bill:

Insert after line 202, "The sum of $10,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary to secure six feet depth of water in the present line of canal across the Cayuga marshes, without delay, payable from any funds applicable to the enlargement of the Erie canal."
