HER Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and His Majesty the King of Prussia, having concluded at Berlin, on the 13th of May, 1846, a Convention for the reciprocal protection of Copyright against piracy; and it having been stipulated in Article VIII of that Convention, that those German States which, together with Prussia, compose the German Union of Customs, or which may hereafter join that Union, should have the right of acceding to the said Convention; Their Britannick and Prussian Majesties have addressed to His Highness (Hoheit) the Duke of Brunswick the invitation to accede thereto; And His Highness the Duke of Brunswick being desirous of availing himself of the opportunity thus afforded to him of acceding to the said Convention; The respective Plenipotentiaries, that is to say, On the part of Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Right Honourable John, Earl of Westmorland, Lord Burghersh, a Peer of the United Kingdom, a Member of Her Britannick Majesty's Privy Council, a Lieutenant-General, Grand Cross of the Military Order of the Bath of England and of the Guelphs of Hanover, Her Britannick Majesty's Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to His Majesty the King of Prussia; On the part of His Majesty the King Prussia, the Sieur Charles William Ernest, Baron de Canitz and Dallwitz, his Minister of State and Cabinet for Foreign Affairs, a Lieutenant-General, Knight of the Order of the Red Eagle of the first class with oak leaves, of the Order for Merit, of the Iron Cross of the first class, of the Cross of Distinction for Military Service in Prussia, Grand Cross of the Order of Leopold of Austria, of the Guelphs of Hanover, of the House and Merit of Oldenburg, and of Henry the Lion of Brunswick, Knight of the Cross of Honour with the Crown of Hohenzollern, of the Orders of St. Alexander Newsky, of St. Wladimir of the fourth class, of St. Anne of the first class, of St. Stanislaus of the second class with the star, and of the Cross of Military Merit of Russia; And on the part of His Highness the Duke of Brunswick, the Sieur Otho William Charles de Roeder, his Minister Resident at the Court of Prussia, a Colonel, Chamberlain, and Commander of the first class of the Order of Henry the Lion of Brunswick, Knight of the Order of the Red Eagle of the second class of Prussia, of Civil Merit of the third class of Bavaria, Commander of the first class of the Order of the House of Ernest of Ducal Saxony, Commander of the Orders of Leopold of Belgium, of Christ, of the Military Order of St. Benedict d'Aviz, and Grand Cross of the Order of the Conception of Our Lady of Villa-Viçosa of Portugal: Met together for the purpose of recording in due form the Accession of His Highness the Duke of Brunswick, as well as the Acceptance, by Her Britannick Majesty and His Prussian Majesty, of the said Accession. The Plenipotentiary of His Highness the Duke of Brunswick in consequence declares, in virtue of his full powers, that His said Highness accedes both to the Convention of the 13th May, 1846, containing Ten Articles, and of which a printed copy is annexed to the present Act, and to the special provisions contained in §§ 1-4 of the Separate Protocol signed on the same day, of which a copy is also hereunto annexed; promising that the stipulations of the said Convention, which shall come into operation in the Duchy of Brunswick from and after the 1st of April, 1847, as well as those of the Separate Protocol, shall be carried into execution by His Highness the Duke of Brunswick in all points, so far as they may be applicable to the relations which subsist between the Brunswick Government and the British Government and its subjects; and declaring that English works registered, in virtue of Article II of the Convention, in the register-book kept at Berlin, shall be entitled also to protection against piracy in the Duchy of Brunswick. The Plenipotentiaries of Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of His Majesty the King of Prussia, in virtue of their full powers, accept the Accession of His Highness the Duke of Brunswick; promising that the stipulations of the Convention of the 13th of May, 1846, as well as the special provisions which are contained in the Protocol of the same date, shall be carried into execution by their respective Sovereigns in all points, with regard to the Brunswick Government and its subjects, in the same manner as between the British and Prussian Governments and their subjects. In witness whereof the respective Plenipotentiaries have signed the present Act, and have affixed thereto the seal of their arms. Done at Berlin, the 30th of March, in the year of our Lord 1847.
