In presenting this edition to the Public, the Editor not only feels much gratification in complying with the very strong solicitations of many cordial friends to the Church of England, both in this and the sister country, but also in having an opportunity of stating that the work has proved eminently useful in removing doubts and scruples from the minds of some who were hesitating as to the duty of leaving the Establishment, and in bringing back to her pale others, who, in the fervour of first impressions, acted with precipitancy, and took a step which caused them much sorrow of heart.

The Editor, under the full persuasion that it is God alone who can prosper any measure or work, however well intended, desires humbly to invoke his blessing upon it, and entreats the prayers of his brethren, that, in the discharge of his ministerial duties, he may be enabled by the influence of the

Holy Spirit to act zealously and conscientiously; and that in every situation he may be kept humble and watchful, equally sensible of the remaining corruptions of a fallen nature, and of the atonement made for sin, by that all-sufficient Saviour whose gospel it is his privilege and delight to preach,
