An Act to empower the Governor General in Council to increase the rate of Duty on Salt imported into the North-Western Provinces of the Presidency of Bengal. WHEREAS it is expedient to increase the rate of Duty on Salt imported into the North-Western Provinces of the Presidency of Bengal; It is enacted as follows: I. So much of Section II of Act XIV of 1843 (for regulating the levy of Customs Duties, and the manufac ture of Salt in the North-Western Provinces of the Presidency of Bengal) as prescribes the levy of a Duty of two Rupees per maund on the import of Salt into the said Provinces, and of a further Duty of one Rupee per maund on the transmission thereof to the Eastward of Allahabad, is hereby repealed. II. It shall be lawful for the Governor General in Council to order the levy, on and after the 24th day of December 1859, of a Customs Duty not exceeding three Rupees per maund on Salt imported into the North-Western Provinces of the Presidency of Bengal.
