No. 1011, entitled "An act to amend chapter 672 of the Laws of 1898, entitled ‘An act making an appropriation for the expenses of the National Guard and Naval Militia, and also for the National Guard and Naval Militia and volunteers, when called into service for the public defense or otherwise, and for the issue of bonds for such purposes" (No. 1447), reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill restored to its place on the order of third reading.

Mr. Higgins, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the Assembly bill introduced by Mr. Kelsey, Rec. No. 683, entitled "An act to authorize the building of a canal and locks; in and near Cohoes, to connect the Erie and Champlain canals, and for other purposes" (No. 2329), reported in favor of the passage of the same, with some amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill restored to its place on the order of third reading.

Mr. Higgins, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the Assembly bill introduced by Mr. Paris, Rec. No. 554, entitled "An act to provide for making repairs and improvements to the Glens Falls feeder of the Champlain canal, and making an appropriation therefor " (No. 481), reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Higgins, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the bill introduced by Mr. Malby, Int. No. 455, entitled "An act to amend chapter 176 of the Laws of 1898, entitled 'An act to provide for the representation of the State of New York at the Universal Exposition of Works of Art and Industrial and Agricultural Products, to be held at Paris in the year 1900'" (No. 488), reported in favor of the passage of the same, with some amendments, which report was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Malby, and by unanimous consent, the rules were suspended, and said bill ordered to a third reading.

Mr. Higgins, from the committee on finance, reported, a bill - entitled "An act to amend the Tax Law, in relation to the fees of county treasurers for collection and disbursing school moneys' (Int. No. 1015), which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time.

On motion of Mr. Higgins, and by unanimous consent, the rules were suspended, and said bill ordered to a third reading.

Mr. Grady moved that the Senate do now adjourn.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative. Whereupon, the Senate adjourned.

The journal of Saturday, April 22d, was read and approved. Mr. McCarren (accompanied by a memorial) introduced a bill entitled "An act to provide for the erection of a municipal building in the city of New York" (Int. No. 1017), which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on affairs of cities.

On motion of Mr. Grady, indefinite leave of absence was granted to Mr. Norton.

Mr. Marshall, from the committee on printed and engrossed bills, reported as correctly printed the bills entitled as follows:

The Assembly sent for concurrence the following entitled bills: "An act to confer jurisdiction upon the Court of Claims to hear, audit and determine the alleged claim of Thomas W. Tomp kins against the State on account of a certificate issued to him pursuant to chapter 176 of the Laws of 1859' (No. 2323, Rec. No. 698), which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time.

On motion of Mr. Graney, and by unanimous consent, the rules were suspended, and said bill ordered to a third reading, and referred to the committee on the judiciary, retaining its place on the order of third reading.

"An act to amend section 40 of chapter 688 of the Laws of 1892, being chapter 36 of the general laws known as the Stock Corporation Law'" (No. 2295, Rec. No. 699), which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time.

On motion of Mr. Raines, and by unanimous consent, the rules were suspended, and said bill ordered to a third reading, and referred to the committee on the judiciary, retaining. its place on the order of third reading.

"An act to amend section 89 of the Code of Civil Procedure, relative to the appointment of special deputies by county clerks in certain counties, and the fixing of the salaries of the same " (No. 2339, Rec. No. 700), which was read the first time, and by unanimous consent was also read the second time, and referred to the committee on codes.

"An act to provide for the payment by the State of the salaries. of all employees of a State department who enlisted as volunteers
