Anno Domini 1790, in the thirty-first year of the reign of our fovereign lord GEORGE the Third, by the grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, defender of the faith, &c. And from thence continued, by feveral prorogations, to the thirtyfirst day of January 1792; being the fecond feffion of the feventeenth parliament of Great Britain.

CA P. I.

An act to extend to the provisions of certain acts of parliament made to regulate the trials of controverted elections, or returns of members to ferve in parliament.

HEREAS by an act, paffed in the eleventh year of the reign Preamble.

of his prefent Majefty, intituled, An act to explain and amend 11Geo.3.c.42. an act, made in the laft feffion of parliament, intituled, An act to and 28 Geo 3. regulate the trials of controverted elections, or returns of members to C. 52. recited. ferve in parliament; it is enacted, That, on the day appointed by the houfe of commons for taking into confideration any petition complaining of an undue election, or return of any member to ferve in parliament, the houfe shall not proceed to any other business whatsoever, except the fwearing of members, previous to the reading the order of the day for that purpose: and whereas by an act, paffed in the twenty-eighth year of the reign of his prefent Majefly, intituled, An act for the further regulation of the trials of controverted elections, or returns of members VOL. CA P. II.

An act to repeal the duties on certain inhabited houfes containing lefs than feven windows, or lights, granted by an act of the fixth year of the reign of his prefent Majesty.

WH

HEREAS by an act, made in the fixth year of the reign of his prefent Majefty, (intituled, An act for repealing the feveral duties upon houfes, windows, and lights, and for granting to his Majefty other duties upon houfes, windows, and lights), it was among other things enacted, That there should be charged, raifed, levied, and paid, unto his Majefty, his heirs and fucceffors, feveral rates and duties upon houfes therein-after mentioned; that is to fay; for every dwelling houfe inhabited, which then was or thereafter should be treated within that part of Great Britain called England, the yearly fum of three fillings; and for every dwelling house inhabited, which then was or thereafter should be erected within that part of Great Britain called Scotland, the yearly fum of one fhilling: may it pleafe your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's molt excellent majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and commons, in this preFrom April 5, fent parliament aflembled, and by the authority of the fame, That,

from and after the fifth day of April one thousand seven hundred and ninety-two, no dwelling houfe inhabited throughout Great Britain, which fhall not contain more than fix windows or lights, fhall be charged or chargeable with the faid refpective rates and duties of three fhillings, and one shilling, but shall be wholly freed,

exempted,, and difcharged therefrom; and that then, and from with the thenceforth, all the powers and authorities given and granted by by the recited duty impofed the faid recited act, or any other act of parliament, in relation act. to the faid recited rates and duties, fhall be no longer ufed, applied, or put in execution, with respect to fuch dwelling houfes inhabited within Great Britain which shall not contain feven windows or lights, but fhall in that refpect ceafe and determine; fave and except in all cafes relating to the recovering of any arrears which may at that time remain unpaid of the faid rates and duties, and to the accounting for the fame, or to any penalty or forfeiture which fhall have been incurred upon or at any time before the faid fifth day of April one thousand feven hundred and ninety-two, any thing herein-before contained to the contrary notwithstanding.

II. CA P. III.

An act for repealing the duties on female fervants.

HEREAS by an act, made in the twenty-fifth year of the reign Preamble. of his prefent Majefty, intituled, An act to repeal the duties 25 Geo.3.C.4% on male fervants, and for granting new duties on male and female recited. fervants; it was enacted, That, from and after the fifth day of July one thousand feven hundred and eighty-five, there should be paid unto his Majefty, his heirs and fucceffors, throughout the kingdom of Great Britain, by all persons who should retain or employ any female fervant or fervants, fuch yearly fums as are therein mentioned: may it please your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's moft excellent majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the lords fpiritual and temporal, and commons, in this prefent parliament affembled, and by the authority of the fame, That, From April from and after the fifth day of April one thousand seven hundred 5, 1792, the and ninety-two, the duties on female fervants granted by the faid male fervants, recited act fhall ceafe and determine; and that then, and from granted by thenceforth, all the powers and authorities given and granted, and the recited the rules and regulations eftablished and prefcribed by the faid act, to ceafe. recited act, or by any other act of parliament, in relation to the managing, fecuring, afcertaining, collecting, recovering, levying, and paying the faid duties, and all penalties and forfeitures in respect thereof, fhall alfo ceafe and determine; fave and except in all cafes relating to the recovering of any arrears which may at that time remain unpaid of the faid duties, and to the accounting for the fame, or to any penalty or forfeiture which shall have Hh 2

CA P. IV.

An act for repealing the duties on waggons, wains, carts, and other carriages, granted by an act of the twenty-third year of the reign of his prefent Majesty.

WHE

HEREAS by an act, made in the twenty-third year of the reign of his prefent Majesty, intituled, An act for granting to his Majefty feveral rates and duties upon waggons, wains, carts, and other fuch carriages, not charged with any duty under the management of the commiffioners of excife; certain rates and duties were charged upon every person who should keep any waggon, wain, cart, or other fuch carriage with three or four wheels, or any cart or other carriage with two wheels, (except fuch carriages as were then charged with any duty under the management of the commiffioners of excife), and the Jaid rates and duties were placed under the receipt and management of the commiffioners for managing the duties on stamped vellum,parchment, and paper: and whereas by another act,made in the twenty25 Geo.3.c.47. fifth year of the reign of his prefent Majefly, intituled, An act for transfer
