"Tis the eternal Wisdom, begotten of the Father before all ages, and coeternal with him, that speaks here. It was this Wisdom that gave the law to Moses, and appointed every part of the ancient service, figurative of the truths of the new law, and thus by his types, ministered in the sanctuary, the holy abode of God. But this eternal Wisdom became incarnate, and that in the womb of the blessed Mary: in remembrance therefore of this blessing are read on the feasts of the blessed Virgin several passages, which, in their literal and proper sense, appertain to Christ alone, in whom with the Father and Holy Ghost, all our religious worship properly terminates. |
