A ND whereas all Projections extending into the Streets, Lanes, and publick Ways of the faid City of York, or the Suburbs thereof, farther than the antient Foundation Walls of the Houses and Buildings therein, are unlawful Obftructions and Incroachments upon the King's Highway, and, as fuch, Nufances to the Public in general, and are alfo Incroachments upon the Soil of the Mayor and Commonalty of this City, and, as fuch, an Injury to the Collective Body of the Citizens: But as fuch Projections are not equally injurious in the wider and more open Parts of the faid City, as they are in the narrower Streets and publick Ways; and it will be a great Benefit to the Public, that fuch Incroachments fhould be reduced in Proportion to the Breadth of fuch Streets and publick Ways: It is therefore hereby ordered by the Authority and in Purfuance of the faid A&t of Parliament, and upon our View and Knowledge of the faid Streets and publick Ways, and of the feveral Projections and Incroachments therein, That, from and after the firft Day of July next, if any Wall, Step, Poft, Pallifado, Rail, CellarWindow, or other Projection whatsoever, fhall extend farther than Eighteen Inches into any Street, Lane, or publick Way within this City, where fuch Street, Lane, or publick Way fhall not exceed Seven Yards in Breadth, 'from the Foundation Walls of the Houses or other Buildings, on the one Side thereof, to the Foundation Walls of the Houfes or other Buildings on the other Side thereof, (the faid Eighteen Inches to be measured from the old Foundation Wall of the Houfe or Building to which any fuch Projection fhall be affixed) the Perfon or Perfons making or continuing any fuch Projection, or caufing the fame to be made or continued, will be profecuted for a publick Nufance, and fuch Projection will be removed and taken away.
