It is not without some apprehension of incurring the charge of presumption that I venture to present to you a little volume of Sermons, most of which were composed, and all were delivered, during a residence of a few weeks at Cheltenham.

It is difficult to judge of our own motives; but, as far as I am able to decide upon those by which I have been influenced in this publication, I believe them to be mainly-in the first place, the desire of living a little longer in the recollection of those by whom these plain addresses were so kindly received, and more especially of recalling your attention to topics which can never be forgotten without injury, and can scarcely be recollected without benefit and comfort to the heart.

May the great and compassionate Being to whose honour this little volume is, I trust, humbly dedicated, be pleased to overlook its deficiencies, and carry its truths with power to the hearts of its readers.

I have the honour to be,

Your faithful and obedient

Friend and Servant,

THE AUTHOR.

Harrow, May 2, 1825.
