CA P. CXXX.

An Act to continue, until Three Months after the ceasing of
any Restriction impofed on the Bank of England from
iffuing Cash in Payment, the feveral Acts for confirming
and continuing the Restrictions on Payments in Cash by the
Bank of Ireland.

WHEREAS by an Act made in the Parliament of Ireland
in the Thirty feventh Year of the Reign of His prefent.
Majefty, intituled An Ad for confirming and continuing for a limited
time the Reftri&ions contained in the Minute of Council of the Second
Day of March One thoufand feven hundred and ninety feven, on
Payments in Cafb by the Bank, it is, amongst other things, enacted,
That it fhall not be lawful for the Governor and Company of the
• Bank of Ireland to iffue any Cafh in Payment of any Debt or De-
⚫mand whatfoever, except according to the Provifions therein con-
tained; and that the faid Act shall be in force and have Continuance

until Three Months after the Restriction impofed by an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain on the Governor and Company of the Bank of England from iffuing Cafh in Payment fhall ceafe, unless the Lord Lieutenant and Privy Council of Ireland fhould by an Order of Council direct that the faid Restriction on the Governor and Company of the Bank of Ireland fhould fooner ceafe: And Whereas by an Act, paffed in the Parliament of the 43 G. 3. c. 44 United Kingdom in the Forty third Year of His prefent Majefty's Reign, the faid recited Act of the Parliament of Ireland was 'amended and further continued; and by an A&t made in the Forty fourth Year of His present Majefty's Reign, both the said recited

Acts were further continued: And Whereas it is expedient to [44 G. 3. c.21.] continue for a further time the faid recited Acts of the Thirty ⚫ feventh and Forty third Years aforefaid:' May it therefore pleafe Your Majesty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by The King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the continued until faid recited Acts of the Thirty feventh and Forty third Years of Expiration of His prefent Majesty's Reign shall have Continuance until the Expiration of Three Calendar Months next after any Restriction impofed or on Bank of to be imposed by any Act (a) made or to be made in this prefent England. CA P. CXXXI.

An Act to provide for the better Execution of the Laws in Ireland, by appointing Superintending Magiftrates and additional Conftables in Counties, in certain cafes.

[25th July 1814.]

WHEREAS Disturbances have from time to time exifted in

different Parts of Ireland, for the Suppreffion whereof the ordinary Police hath been found infufficient, and it is expedient that Provifion fhould be made for fuch cafes:' Be it therefore enacted by The King's Moft Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and

Commons, in Parliament assembled, That, from and after the paffing Chief Magiftrate of this Act, it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Lord Lieu- of Police, &c. tenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the appointed. time being, by the Advice of the Privy Council of Ireland, to declare by Proclamation, that any County, County of a City or County of a Town in Ireland, or any Barony or Baronies, Half Barony or Half Baronies in any County at large, to be therein specified, is or are in a State of Difturbance, and requires or require an extraordinary Establishment of Police; and thereupon it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, by Warrant under Hand and Seal, to appoint One Chief Magiftrate of Police for fuch County,

or for any Barony or Baronies, Half Barony or Half Baronies, which may be fo difturbed, fo that if there fhall be more than One fuch Barony or Half Barony, there may be either One or more fuch Chief Magiftrate or Magiftrates, not exceeding One for each Barony or Half Barony, as fhall feem beft; and the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, fhall have full Power from time to time to remove any fuch Chief Magiftrate, and upon fuch or any Vacancy or Vacancies to appoint One or more Chief Magiftrate or Magiftrates, either according to the fame Arrangement, or to any other which the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, fhall think proper to make as aforefaid.

II. And be it further enacted, That every fuch Chief Magistrate fhall forthwith take the Oaths which fhall be then required by Law to be taken by Magiftrates in Ireland; and thereupon fuch Chief Magiftrate, fo long as he fhall continue to hold the faid Office, fhall, without further Appointment or Commiffion, have all the Powers of a Juftice of the Peace, and be to all Intents and Purposes a Juftice of the Peace, in, of and for the County for which or for any Part of which he fhall be fo appointed Chief Magiftrate, and of and for each and every County adjoining thereto, in fuch Parts of every fuch adjoining County as fhall be within Seven Miles of fuch difturbed District.

III. And be it further enacted, That every fuch Chief Magiftrate fhall forthwith repair to the County, District, Barony or Half Barony, for which he fhall be fo appointed Chief Magiftrate, and fhall be refident therein, and fhall not depart therefrom, without the previous Permiffion of the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, fignified to him in Writing by the Chief Secretary, or in his Abfence, by the Under Secretary for the Civil Department, unless in and for the immediate and urgent Execution of the Duty of the faid Office of Chief Magiftrate.

IV. And be it further enacted, That every fuch Chief Magistrate, while he fhall hold the faid Office, fhall have and receive a Salary of Seven hundred Pounds Sterling by the Year, and rateably for any leffer Period in manner hereinafter mentioned; and shall have a fuitable Houfe, Furnitute and Outhoufes, within the County or Place for which he fhall be fo appointed Chief Magiftrate, and in or adjoining to fuch Houfe a fuitable and proper Office for the Difcharge of his Bufinefs, the fame refpectively to be paid and provided in manner hereinafter mentioned; and fuch Houfe, Out Offices and Office of Bufinefs, to be fuch as the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, fhall direct and approve.

V. And be it further enacted, That each and every Juftice of the Peace refident in the County or Diftrict for which fuch Chief Magiftrate fhall be fo appointed, fhall be aiding and affifting in fuch their Capacity of Justice of the Peace to fuch Chief Magiftrate; and every Juftice of the Peace for fuch County in which fuch Chief Magiftrate fhall refide, fhall, during fuch Refidence, deliver or caufe to be delivered to fuch Chief Magiftrate, as fpeedily as the nature of each cafe fhall admit of, all and every Examination, Information or Intelligence, which he shall take or receive, concerning any Offence committed

VI. And be it further enacted, That it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, to appoint, for the Aid and Support Chief Magifof any fuch Chief Magiftrates, and to remove at his or their Pleafure, trate, and also a a Clerk, and alfo a Chief Conftable, and any Number of Sub Con- Chief Constable ftables, not exceeding Fifty in the whole, or any fuch leffer Number, as to the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors for the time being, may feem neceffary and proper from time to time, and to order fuch Arms and Accoutrements to be delivered to fuch Chief and Sub Constables, and alfo to order fuch Horfes and Saddles and Bridles for the fame, to be purchased and provided for fuch Chief and Sub Conftables, or any of them, as occafion may require, and fuch Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, fhall think proper; and fuch Chief Conftable and Sub Conftables of and for the fame County or Counties for which fuch Chief Magiftrate fhall be a Juftice of the Peace as aforefaid, fhall attend fuch Chief Magiftrate, and obey and execute his lawful Warrants, Orders and Commands, and fhall not attend any other Magistrate or Magiftrates of any fuch County, unless by the exprefs Orders of fuch Chief Magistrate.

VII. And be it further enacted, That there fhall be paid to every fuch Clerk a Salary not exceeding One hundred and fifty Pounds by the Year, and to every fuch Chief Conftable a Salary not exceeding One hundred and fifty Pounds by the Year, and to every fuch ftables. Petty Constable a Salary not exceeding Fifty Pounds by the Year, and rateably to each and every of the faid Perfons for any leffer Period in manner hereinafter mentioned; and fhall have fuitable Lodgings provided for them, in cafe the fame fhall be thought neceffary, and fhall be directed by the Lord Lieutenant or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being.

VIII. And be it further enacted, That every fuch Chief Magiftrate fhall once in every Week, and oftener if neceffary, make a Return in Writing, figned by himself, to the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, wherein shall be set forth a true and accurate Account of the State of the County or Place for which he fhall be fo appointed, and of the feveral Measures taken by him, or with his Knowledge or Privity, for or towards the Prefervation or Restoration of Peace and good Order therein, and of the Conduct of the Chief and Sub Constables under his Command, and of all other Perfons, fo far as the fame may contribute or tend to the Reftoration or Preservation of Peace and good Order as aforefaid.

IX. therein shall ceafe and determine; but if any Part shall still remain in a State of Disturbance, then and from thenceforth every fuch Chief Magiftrate who has within his District any disturbed Barony or Half Barony, Baronies or Half Baronies, and each and every Clerk, and Chief Conftable and Sub Constable under his Authority, shall continue to act for fuch Barony or Baronies, Half Barony or Half Baronies, unless it fhall be otherwife ordered by the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being; and every fuch Chief Magiftrate who fhall not have any disturbed Barony or Half Barony within his Diftrict, and every Clerk, and Chief and Sub Constable under him, fhall forthwith ceafe to hold fuch Office refpectively: Provided always, that it shall be lawful for the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland, to reduce the Number of Constables in any fuch disturbed District from time to time, as to him or them fhall feem fitting or expedient, at any time before fuch District shall be fully restored to Peace and good Order.

X. Provided alfo, and be it further enacted, That whenever it shall happen that any County, or any Barony or Half Barony, which shall at any time under this Act be proclaimed or declared to be in a State of Disturbance, fhall be restored to Peace and good Order, within any time lefs than Twelve Calendar Months from the time certain Periods. when the fame was fo proclaimed or declared in a State of Disturbance, it shall and may be lawful for the Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland for the time being, to direct that for any time not exceeding Three Calendar Months, within which fuch County, Barony or Half Barony, fhall be declared to be restored to Peace and good Order, there fhall be allowed and paid to any Chief Magiftrate who fhall have been appointed in fuch County, Barony or Half Barony, under this Act, any Sum not exceeding Two hundred and fifty Pounds, as and for a Proportion of his yearly Salary on fuch Occafion; and to any Clerk or Chief Conftable fo appointed, any Sum not exceeding Sixty Pounds; and to any other Conftable fo appointed, any Sum not exceeding Twenty Pounds; and that for any time exceeding Three Calendar Months, and not exceeding Six Calendar Months, within which fuch County, Barony or Half Barony, fhall be declared to be reftored to Peace and good Order, there fhall be allowed and paid to fuch Chief Magiftrate any Sum not exceeding Four hundred Pounds, and to fuch Clerk or Chief Conftable any Sum not exceeding One hundred Pounds, and to every fuch other Conftable a Sum not exceeding Thirty Pounds, as to fuch Lord Lieutenant, or other Chief Governor or Governors of Ireland, fhall feem fitting and expedient; and all and every fuch Sum or Sums fhall be raised and paid in manner hereinafter mentioned and provided; and in cafe fuch County, Barony or Half Barony, fhall be restored to Peace and good Order at any time after Six Calendar Months from the time when the fame were so proclaimed or declared in a State of Difturbance, then there fhall be obtained and paid to fuch Chief Magiftrate, Clerk, Chief Conftable and Conftables refpectively, a proportionate Part of their Salaries, calculated after the whole annual Rate of fuch Salaries respectively.

XI. And be it further enacted, That the feveral Salaries and the Proportions thereof, or Allowances herein-before directed to be paid and given to fuch Chief Magiftrate, Clerk, Chief Conftable and
