Leslie MacMitchell, New York University, won the 33rd annual I. C. A. A. A. A. cross country run (Nov. 16, 1941) in Van Cortlandt Park, New York City, in which 134 men from 19 colleges participated. MacMitchell's time for the five-mile race was 26:40.1, followed by Robert Nichols, Rhode Island State, 26:57.2, and Glenn V. Masten, Colgate, 27:02.2. Rhode Island State won the team title with 31 points; New York University, second. with 112; and Manhattan, third, with 130. The Freshman race was won by Gerald T. Karver, Penn State. in 15:51.3 for the three-mile course. Ray Zoellner, New York University, was second, 15:52; and David Williams, Georgetown, third, 16:12. The Yonkers, N. Y. 11-9 team title went to Manhattan with 60 points. The Western Conference cross country championship was won by Purdue University (Nov. 17, 1941) at Lafayette, Ind., with 33 points. Indiana was next with 56, and Ohio State, third, with 72. Fred Wilt, Indiana, covered the hilly four-mile course in 20:01.5. The fourth annual National Collegiate A. A. cross country championship was run (Nov. 24, 1941) at East Lansing, Mich., and was won by Frederick L. Wilt, University of Indiana, who was clocked in 20:32.3 for the four-mile course.
