Joshua Williamson, Atlantic City, former Zavier University of New Orleans, was third with 5,236 points; Howard Jensen, Philadelphia, formerly of Temple University, fourth, with 4,644 points, and Archie Harris, Ocean City, N. J., of Indiana University, fifth, with 4,289. William Watson, 1940 winner, did not compete. Harris tossed the discus 167 feet, a new national decathlon record.
