Mr. WATTS, from the committee on the militia laws, presented reports upon the petitions of the officers of the 168th regiment of militia asking to be furnished with certain equipments; and of the officers of the 113th regiment of militia for the formation of a new regiment in the county of Wood.

On motion of Mr. SYME, the following resolution submitted by Mr. WATTS on yesterday, was taken up. Resolved, That the committee charged with the investigation of the charges against judge Gholson, have power to cause so much of the testimony in said investigation to be printed for the use of the committee as they may deem relevant and proper.

And the question being put thereupon, was determined in the negative.

On motion of Mr. WATTS, Resolved, That the governor be requested to furnish this house with a statement exhibiting the amount allowed and paid to the officers of the volunteer companies of the first regiment for expenses incurred in raising, organizing and transporting said companies, together with such claims as have been rejected by him, and the grounds of their rejection.

On motion of Mr. STOVALL, Resolved by the general assembly of Virginia, That the resolution of the assembly adopted the 12th of January 1846, entitled "a resolution to rescind the resolution requiring notice to be given to persons having claims on Virginia for revolutionary land bounty to present the same by a given day for adjustment, or that the same shall thereafter be void, and extending the time for prosecuting their claims," be rescinded, and that claimants of revolutionary land bounty be allowed till the 1st of March 1850 to prosecute their claims.

2. Resolved, That the register of the land office be, and he is hereby instructed to publish the foregoing resolution in such newspapers as may be most likely to give notice of the same.

Mr. SYME presented certain documents to be used as evidence to support the claim of Capt. William M. Robinson; which was ordered to be referred to the committee of claims.

On motion of Mr. HARGRAVE leave was given to withdraw the petition of Nancy Lane, presented at the last session of the general assembly, praying to be divorced from her husband.

Mr. HARGRAVE then presented again the said petition, and it was ordered to be referred to the committee for courts of justice.

Mr. HARGRAVE presented a petition of the school commissioners and other citizens of the county of Surry asking to be exempted from the operation of a law passed the 5th March 1846, amending the primary school system, which was ordered to be referred to the committee of schools and colleges.

John W. Rowan in the enlistment and organization of his company of volunteers; and the said petitions and resolutions were ordered to be laid upon the table.

Mr. WATTS, from the committee on the militia laws, presented a report on the petition of the officers of the 47th and 88th regiments of militia for the restoration of the office and pay of brigade inspectors.

Mr. DORMAN, from the committee of roads and internal navigation, presented the following bills:

No. 314. A bill to provide for the construction of a dam and lock by the James river and Kanawha company at the town of Jefferson.

No. 315. A bill to revive the Goose creek navigation company.

No. 316. A bill providing for the connection of the James river and Kanawha canal with the tidewater of James river at Richmond and for other purposes.

No. 317. A bill incorporating the Moorfield and North branch turnpike company; and

No. 318. A bill to amend the act passed the 27th February 1829, prescribing a tariff of tolls on the Kanawha river.

On motion of Mr. DORMAN the committee of roads and internal navigation was discharged from the consideration of the petition of the president and directors of the Louisa railroad company, complaining of the violation by the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac railroad company of a contract with said Louisa company, and the memorials and remonstrances relative to the same subject; and of citizens of the counties of Cabell and Wayne for a subscription by the state to the stock of the railroad from Richmond to the Ohio river, and that the said petitions be laid upon the table.

On motion of Mr. STEPHENSON, Resolved, That the first auditor be instructed to prepare and cause to be printed by the public printer, in convenient form and submitted to the house of delegates at its next session, tabular statement embracing the following information, to wit: the white and black population of the state, the latter embracing free negroes according to the census of 1830 and 1840, arranged in counties and towns and in the four great divisions of the state; also the federal population, the land and property tax and free white titheables in each of the said years, arranged in the same manner; also the free white and black titheables and land and property tax for the year 1846, arranged in the four great divisions as aforesaid.

On motion of Mr. DORMAN, Ordered, That 1000 copies of the said tabular statement, when made, be printed for the use of the next general assembly.

Mr. GRESHAM presented a petition of citizens of the counties of Richmond, Westmoreland and Essex for the passage of an act more effectually to prevent the destruction of fish in the Rappahannock river, which was ordered to be referred to the committee of propositions and grievances.
