STATE OF MAINE. Resolve for the publication and disbtribution of an Abstract of the Returns of Common Schools. RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be directed to cause an Abstract in tabular form, by Counties, to be made annually, of the Returns of Common Schools, made by the several cities, towns and plantations within this State, together with a statement of the population of each city, town and plantation, according to the last preceding census; and such comparisons of said returns, and of the population, and such deductions therefrom as may be usefully and conveniently made; and a statement of the dividend from the annual School Fund or Bank Tax, as shown by the returns of that year, also showing what School Books are used, so far as the same can be done from the returns. RESOLVED, That it shall be the duty of the Secretary of State to cause a sufficient number of copies of the Abstract and statements aforesaid to be printed, and to forward by mail, or otherwise, to the Aldermen of the several cities, Selectmen of the several towns, and Assessors of the several plantations, one copy for each School District within such city, town or plantation. And such Aldermen, Selectmen and Assessors are hereby required, as soon as may be, on the receipt of such Abstracts, to distribute one copy thereof to each School District within such city, town or plantation.
