INHERITANCE.

Have you heard or read of an Inheritance ?
What does it mean?

Do children inherit what their parents have? Do we read in Scripture of an Inheritance? Had the children of Israel an Inheritance? What?

Did they enter upon it immediately?

Did they not go through many trials before they entered upon it?

Tell me some of them?

Do you think that while they were in the wilderness they often thought of their promised Inheritance?

Would not the prospect of it be a comfort to them in their sufferings by the way?

What tribe was to have no inheritance among their brethren, the children of Israel?

Can you think why?

[We may believe, that being appointed to attend upon the service of God, they were to be kept free from outward cares, relating to things temporal: that they were to be reminded that no earthly possession is to be compared with the blessedness reserved for the faithful in a future state. They were actually to exemplify in their lives that detachment from all earthly things, which every Christian should seek to

feel in his heart-they were peculiarly to realize God's presence upon earth.]

But were the Levites to have any Inheritance?

What? Numb. xviii. 20; Deut. x. 9.

Was this a blessed Inheritance ?

Would you have such an one?

Is there an Inheritance of the Saints? What kind of an Inheritance? 1 Pet. i. 4. Must the children of God expect many trials in the way to it?

But will the thought of their Inheritance comfort them?

A worldly Inheritance is valued by many persons, but it cannot make its possessor happy; and if it could, he must leave it for ever, when he dies is it so with the heavenly Inheritance?

Who has purchased this Inheritance for us? How?

And what is given to us, as the earnest of the Inheritance? Eph. i. 13, 14.

And does not Jesus support his followers under their sorrows by the way?

Have we strong encouragement to seek the Inheritance of the Saints?

Read Rom. viii. 17. These are glorious privileges; may you be made partakers of

them?

Yes: Jesus Christ died that you might become an Heir of God.

Do you read in Scripture of being made meet or fit to be a partaker of the Inheritance of the Saints? Col. i. 12..

How then should your life on earth be spent?

If Christ suffered to make you a partaker of His Inheritance, should not you be willing to suffer for His sake? Matt. xvi. 24; 2 Tim. ii. 12.

To what did holy persons of old look forward in all their sufferings? Read Heb. xi. 13. 16. 26. Do you think the heavenly Inheritance will reward any pains that can be taken to obtain it? Will you ever regret any pains you take?

No; my dear Children, if the blessed in Heaven were capable of grief, they would grieve that they had not been more earnest in loving and following their Saviour, more watchful against sin, more fervent in prayer, more diligent in labouring for God.

JESUS...O

What does the holy name Jesus signify? [Saviour.]

Why was this name given what is said by the Angel, Matt. i. 21?

And have you any sins? indus als

Do you hope Jesus will save you from them?

Can any one else save you?

Did Jesus love men very much?v

Where do you read of many loving actions of Jesus?

Are all the things which Jesus did, recorded? See John xxi. 25.

For what purpose has the history of his life been given to us? (John xx. 31.)

What is the greatest proof Jesus ever gave of His love?

Point out to me the account of His death, in each of the gospels.

Ought this account to be read very seriously? Why did Jesus choose such a death?

What took place on the third day?

Whither did Jesus ascend? Repeat Eph. iv. 10.

Does Jesus love children?

When He was on earth, did He invite them to come to Him?

When His disciples rebuked those who

brought them to Him, what did He say? Read Mark x. 13-16.

Does Jesus now invite children to come to Him?

Has Jesus taken many children to Heaven?
When will Jesus come again?

Will he come as He did before? Read Luke ii. 12 with Matt. xxv. 31.

Whom will He take to Heaven when He comes?

And do you desire to be with Him in Heaven?

If you would be with Him in Heaven, must you not go to Him now ?

How may you find Him?

Though you cannot see Him with your bodily eyes, is He not near to you by His Spirit? May you not pray to Him?

May you live in His presence?

Might you now be very happy in his presence?

Ought you ever to displease Him?

And how may you live in His presence, and find Him to be near to you, and pleased with you?

Should you often think of Him?

When you read about Him in the Bible, should you not learn to become one of His followers?

If you are tempted to be proud-think, Jesus was "meek and lowly in heart." (Matth. xi. 29.)
