Temple. From the Improved London Edition of 1834. To which are added the American Cases of Former Editions and many additional references to the present time. By Erastus Smith, Counsellor at Law. Springfield. S. & C. Meriam. 1834. 8vo. pp. 155. [We noticed the English edition of this work in our last number. The American editor has mistaken the authorship of the work. This is an original work by Joseph Chitty Junior, and not an improved edition of the work of the father.]

Discourse, delivered at the Inauguration of the author as Royall Professor of Law, in Harvard University. By Simon Greenleaf. [We shall have occasion to make copious extracts from this justly admired production in a proposed article for a future number.] State Papers on Nullification; including the Public Acts of the Convention of the people of South Carolina, assembled at Columbia, Nov. 19th, 1831, and March 11, 1833; the Proclamation of the President of the United States and the Proceedings of the several State Legislatures which have acted on the subject. Collected and pub

lished by order of the General Court of Massachusetts, under the direction of the Committee on the Library. Boston. Dutton & Wentworth. 1834. pp. 381.

[It is creditable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that it has taken the pains to collect and preserve these documents in a volume like this.]

Reports of Cases in the Court of Appeals of South Carolina, en Appeal from the Courts of Law. By H. Bailey, State Reporter. Vol. 2nd. containing the decisions from December, 1830, to January 1832, inclusive. Charleston. June 1834. 8vo. pp. 740.

[We noticed the first volume of Mr. Bailey's Reports in our last number. The second has been received since.]

A Digested Index of all the Reported Decisions in Law and Equity of the Supreme Courts of the States of Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, with an Appendix, containing the Constitution of the United States &c. By James F. Conover, Esq. of the Cincinnati Bar. Philadelphia. 1834. 8vo. pp. 512.

[This Digest embraces Hammond's Ohio Reports of which five volumes and the first part of the sixth have been published; Blackford s Indiana Reports & Breese's Illinois Reports, one volume of each of which has been published. The Digest will be useful to all, who have occasion to use these reports. It is dedicated to Hon. Daniel Webster.]

Reports of Cases in the Supreme Court of the United States, January Term, 1834. By Richard Peters, Counsellor at law and Reporter of the Decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States. Vol. 8th. Philadelphia. 1834. 8vo. pp. 794.

[The important case of copyright Wheaton v. Peters, is reported in this volume.]

The Practice of the Law in all its Departments; with a view of Rights, Injuries, and Remedies, &c. &c. By J. Chitty Esq. of the

Middle Temple, Barrister. Vol. 1st. First American from the first English Edition, with references to the English Common law and Ecclesiastical Reports. Philadelphia. Nicklin & Johnson. 1834. 8vo. [Noticed in the present number.]

A Discourse on the Professional Character and Virtues of the late William Wirt, delivered in the Hall of the House of Representatives, March 18, 1834. By S. L. Southard. Washington, 1834. pp. 59. [This presents a full narrative of Mr. Wirt's life. Its merit as a literary production is moderate. It is pleasant, however, to read the testimony of a man, like Mr. Southard, to the character and abilities of Mr. Wirt.]

A Practical Treatise on the Law of Evidence and Digest of Proofs, in Civil and Criminal Proceedings. By Thomas Starkie, Esq. of the Inner Temple, Barrister at Law; Downing Professor of Common Law in the University of Cambridge. With references to American Decisions and to the English Common Law and Ecclesiastical Reports, by Theron Metcalf, Edward D. Ingraham, and Benjamin Gerhard, Fifth American, from a new English edition, with considerable additions and alterations. 2 vols. Philadelphia Nicklin & Johnson. 1834. 8vo.

[Noticed in the present number.]
