Mr. French from the joint committee on engroced bills, by leave of the House, reported, that they have carefully examined a bill entitled, An act to alter the time of holding a term of the Court of Common Pleas in the counties of Cheshire and Sullivan, and for altering the times of holding certain terms of the court of Probate at Newport in the county of Sullivan, and find the same, correctly engrossed.

Said bill was signed by the Speaker.

Ordered, That the Clerk inform the Senate thereof.

And then the House adjourned.

The House proceeded to the order of the day, on the bill entitled, An act incorporating Israel's River Manufacturing Company. Which was read a second time.

On motion of Mr. Waldron-

Resolved, That the committee appointed to receive and examine the returns of the inventories from the several towns and places in this State, and report a new proportion of public taxes, be authorized to employ a Clerk.

Mr. Wentworth of Sandwich, introduced the following resolu

tion.

Resolved, That it is expedient to abolish imprisonment for debt, under such restrictions and modifications as the public good may require.

Mr. French from the joint committee on Engrosed Bills reported, That they have presented to His Excellency the Governor for his approval, the bill entitled, An act for altering the times of holding a term of the Court of Common Pleas in the counties of Cheshire and Sullivan, and for altering the times of holding certain terms of the court of Probate at Newport in the county of Sullivan.

"Mr. Speaker-The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the passage of a resolution directing Atkinson Webster to purchase two cast iron fire-places for the use of the Representatives' Hall.

Also in the passage of a resolution in relation to the death of Charles Carroll."

Mr. Kimball from the the committee on Bills on their second reading to whom was referred the bill entitled, An act to incorporate sundry persons by the name of the President, Directors and Company of the Ashuelot Bank, by leave of the House, reported the same with an amendment.

Which amendment was read and adopted.

On motion of Mr. Colby of Weare-

Resolved, That a select committee to consist of one from each county be appointed to take into consideration the expediency of building a fire proof safe for the security of the public papers, and report by bill or otherwise.

Ordered, That Messrs. Brown of Hampton-Falls, Fellows of Gilmanton, Jones of Warner, Farrar, Ingalls of Rindge, Laws, Wells and Lang of Milan, be the committee.

SATURDAY, DEC. 1, 1839.

Mr. Hale presented the petition of the Field Officers of the 2d regiment for the removal of an officer.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on Military Affairs.

Mr. Ingalls of Rindge, presented the petition of the proprietors of the Rindge Turnpike Corporation, for the passage of An act to repeal the charter of said Corporation.

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on Roads, Bridges and Canals.

Mr. Harvey of Sutton, from the committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred a hill entitled, An act in addition to an act to prevent encroachments upon highways, made a report; whereupon, Resolved, That the further consideration of said bill be indefinitely postponed.

Mr. Wentworth of Sandwich, by leave of the House presented the petition of the Field Officers of the 19th regiment, for removal of officers.

On motion of Mr. Peavey-

Resolved, That the use of the Representatives' Hall be granted to the New-Hampshire Temperance Society on Friday evening next for the purpose of a public address by their agent Jonathan Kittredge, Esq.

Mr. Hale gave notice that he should on Monday next ask leave to introduce a bill entitled, An act to suppress frauds and cheats. And then the House adjourned.

poration by the name of the Walpole Manufacturing Company, approved June 20, 1817.

Resolved, That the committee on Military affairs, be instructed to inquire into the expediency of distributing the arms, now in the aresnal at Portsmouth, equally among the several towns in the State, according to the number of soldiers in each of said towns, and that they report by bill or otherwise.

Mr. Sawyer of Swanzey, gave notice that he should to-morrow ask leave to introduce a bill entitled, An act for the preservation of bridges.

Mr. Wentworth of Sandwich, introduced the following resolution. Resolved, That it is expedient to alter the militia law, so that no company shall be compelled to meet by company, oftener than once a year, and by regiments, once in two years, and that the selectmen, furnish a dinner for all on parade, in lieu of paying money. Which was read.

On motion of Mr. Wilson, of Keene-

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on Military affairs.

Mr. Page of Haverhill, introduced the following resolution.

Resolved, That the committee on Military affairs, present to this House, a bill abolishing all trainings, except company trainings twice in a year, and regimental trainings once in two years, and also, making provision that every officer and soldier, who shall do military duty on regimental days, shall receive from the State, one dollar for his services on that day, and also, exempting from military duty, all between the ages of 35 and 45, on the same condition that those over forty are now exempted by law.. Which was read.

On motion of Mr. Sanborn-

That the resolution lie on the table, and he made the order of the day, for to-morrow at 10 o'clock, forenoon,.
