His Excellency the Governor and Honourable Council then withdrew.

The House was called to order by the Clerk.

On motion of Mr. Sanborn

The House proceeded to the choice of Chairman, and Jonathan Harvey, Esquire, was elected, and took the chair accordingly.

On motion of Mr. Wentworth of Sandwich

The House proceeded by ballot to the choice of Speaker, and the Hon. Franklin Pierce was elected, and took the chair accordingly. On motion of Mr. Colby of Weare

The House proceeded by ballot to the choice of Clerk, and James Clark, Esquire, was elected and qualified accordingly.

On motion of Mr. Lamprey

The House proceeded by ballot to the choice of assistant Clerk, and Horace Chase, Esq. was elected, and qualified accordingly.

A Message from the Senate by their Clerk

"Mr. Speaker-I am directed to inform the House of Rep e sentatives that the Senate have assembled, and have elected the Hon. Benning M. Bean their President, Charles G. Atherton, Clerk, and John Whipple assistant Clerk, and are now ready to proceed to the business of the session."

On motion of Mr Curtis

Ordered, That information be given the Hon. Senate by the assistand Clerk that the House of Representatives have assembled and have chosen the Hon. Franklin Pierce their Speaker, James Clark, Clerk and Horace Chase assistant Clerk, and are ready to proceed to the business of the session.

On motion of Mr. Atwood

Resolved, That the rules adopted at the last session of the legislature for the government of the House be adopted for the present session until otherwise ordered.

On motion of Mr. Webber

Resolved, That when the House adjourn in the forenoon, they adjourn to meet at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and that when they adjourn in the afternoon, they adjourn to meet at ten o'clock the next morning, until otherwise ordered.

On motion of Mr. Tibbets

Resolved, That the joint rules of the twe branches of the legislature for the year 1831 be adopted for the present session or until others be adopted.

Ordered, That the Clerk request the concurrence of the Senate therein.

And then the House adjourned.

AFTERNOON.

On motion of Mr. Sandborn

Resolved, That a committee be appointed on the part of the House to join such as may be appointed by the Senate, to wait on his Excellency the Governor and inform him that quorums of both branches of the legislature have assembled, are organized, and are ready to receive any communication he may please to make.

Ordered, That Messrs. Biscoe, Sandborn and Graves of Brentwood be the committee.

Ordered, That the Clerk inform the Senate thereof.

On motion of Mr. Curtis

Resolved, That a committee be appointed to nominate two suitable persons as door-keepers the present session.

Ordered, That Messrs. Curtis, Shaw and Page of Haverhill be the committee.

On motion of Mr. Wilson of Keene

Resolved, That the New-Hampshire Temperance Society be permitted to occupy the Representatives' Hall this evening at six o'clock for the purpose of holding the annual meeting of said society.

On motion of Mr. Page of Gilmanton

Resolved, That a committee be appointed to prepare and report rules for the government of this House the present year.

Ordered, That Messrs. Harvey of Sutton, Coues and Clement of Springfield, be the committee.

A message from the Governor, by the Secretary of State.

"Mr. Speaker-I am directed to introduce to the House of Representatives, Mr. Jeremiah H. Wilkins, who has been duly qualified as a representative from the town of Pembroke."

Mr. Wilkins appeared and took his seat.

On motion of Mr. Frost—

Resolved, That a committee be appointed on the part of the House to join such as the Senate may appoint to prepare and report joint rules for the government of the two Houses the present year.

Ordered, That Messrs. Wilcox, Bartlett of Newtown, and Burnham, be the committee.

On motion of Mr. Wentworth of Sandwich

Resolved, That a committee be appointed on the part of the House to be joined by the Senate to nominate a suitable person to officiate as Chaplain to the Legislature the present session.

Ordered, That Messrs. Page of Gilmanton, Hale and Putnam of Cornish be the committee.

Ordered, That the Clerk inform the Senate thereof.

On motion of Mr. Harvey of Sutton

Resolved, That the House are now ready to meet the Senate in convention to proceed in the elections agreeably to the provisions of the constitution.

Ordered, That the Clerk inform the Senate thereof.

A message from the Senate by their Clerk.

"Mr. Speaker-The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the passage of a resolution adopting the joint rules of the Senate and House of Representatives adopted for the last year as joint rules of both branches until otherwise ordered. Also in the passage of a resolution appointing a committee to wait on His Excellency the Governor and inform him that quorums of both branches of the legislature have assembled, and organized, and are ready to receive any communication he may please to make, and on their part have joined Mr. Burns."

IN CONVENTION.

The Senate and House of Representatives being met in convention

in the Representatives' Hall, the Secretary of State came in and laid before the convention the returns of votes for Governor and Counsellors of this State.

On motion of Mr. Burns of the Senate

The convention proceeded to open, read, and record the returns of votes for Governor, and having completed the opening of the same, On motion of Mr. Jackson of the Senate

Resolved, That a committee be appointed to receive the returns of votes for Governor, compare and cast their number, and report thereon. Ordered, That Messrs. Jackson, of the Senate, Nesmith and Woodman, be the committee.

On motion of Mr. Whittemore, of the Senate-
The convention rose and the Senate withdrew.

And then the House adjourned.

THURSDAY, JUNE 7, 1832.

Mr. Frost of Plainfield introduced the following resolution. Resolved, That a committee be appointed on the part of the House to be joined by such as the Senate may appoint, to procure a clergyman to deliver a discourse before the legislature in the Representatives' Hall at four of the clock afternoon.

Which was read.

On motion of Mr. Gove of Goffstown

Ordered, That it lie on the table.

Mr. Curtis, from the committee appointed to nominate two suitable persons as Door-keepers, reported the following resolution.

Resolved, That Aaron Carter and Atkinson Webster be Door-keepers to the House the present session.

Which was read.

On motion of Mr. Colby of New-London

That the resolution be amended by striking out the name of “ Atkinson Webster," and to insert the name of "Edward Philbrick." It was decided in the negative.

Resolved, That said resolution pass.

A message from the Senate by their Clerk.

"Mr. Speaker-The Senate concur with the House of Representatives in the passage of a resolution appointing a committee to prepare and report joint rules for the government of both branches of the legislature, the present year, and have on their part joined Mr. Farrington. Resolved, That the House are now ready to meet the Senate in convention, to proceed in the elections agreeably to the provisione of the constitution.
