General Court convened, That Samuel Kelly be allowed thirty dollars in fullcompensation for his services as Chaplain to the legislature this session; that Aaron Carter be allowed thirty six dollars in full compensation for his services as Door-keeper of the House this session; and that Atkinson Webster be allowed thirty four dollars in full compensation for his services as Door-keeper of the House at the present session, and that said sums be paid out of treasury. On motion of Mr. Goodrich The House resumed the consideration of the report of the select committee to whom was referred the message of His Excellency transmitting resolutions from the State of Mnine in relation to internal improvements, and resolutions passed by the General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, together with the resolutions submitted by that committee. Mr. Goodrich moved, that the further consideration of said report, together with the aforesaid resolutions, be indefinitely postponed. Resolved, That the tariff of duties on imposts ought to be so modified, if possible, a due regard being had to all the interests of the country, that the receipts from them and other sources of revenue into the treasury of the United States shall not greatly exceed the ordinary annual expenses of the government. Mr. Wilson of Keene moved, that the resolution be amended by striking out after the word "to" in the third line the words "all the interests of the country," and to insert the words "an adequate protection to American industry."
