This standard shall apply to vehicles of category M1 with gross vehicle mass exceeding 500 kg; and vehicles of category M2 with gross vehicle mass exceeding 500 kg but not exceeding 4,500 kg and of category N with gross vehicle mass exceeding 500 kg but not exceeding 4,500 kg could take this standard as reference. However, vehicles of category M2 and N, where the distance, measured longitudinally on a horizontal plane, between the transverse centre line of the front axle and the R-point of the driver seat is less than 1,000 mm, are exempt from the requirements of this standard.
